India To Generate 40 Percent Energy From Non-Fossil Fuels By 2030, Says The Prime Minister
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India aims to generate 40 percent energy from non-fossil fuels by 2030. He was addressing the 80th-anniversary celebrations of Brahma Kumaris family in Mount Abu via video conferencing today. Mr. Modi said that the aim is to secure 175 gigawatts of clean energy by 2022. The Prime Minister said the way Brahma Kumaris family have taken forward the reach in solar energy actively is commendable. He said about 11000 crore rupees has been saved by the use of LED bulbs and Brahma Kumaris organisation can help spread this message. The Prime Minister asked the Brahma Kumaris to spread the message of digital transactions to bring down corruption and to work for immunisation, nutrition, and other schemes of the government.
Government Asks Telecom Operators To Re-Verify All Mobile Subscribers Through Aadhar Based e-KYCs
All existing subscribers of mobile services will have to go for Aadhaar-based re-verification soon. A notification issued by the Telecom department said that all telecom operators shall re-verify all existing mobile subscribers both, prepaid and postpaid, through the Aadhaar-based eKYC process. Government has instructed telecom operators to initiate the process in this regard. Cellular operators’ body said, its members may meet next week to discuss the modalities of rolling out the verification process for the existing one billion-plus mobile phone users. Verification of a subscriber would not be required in case of conversions – that is from prepaid to postpaid connections or vice versa.
India Wins 73 Medals In 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games Including 37 Golds
India’s special athletes gave an impressive performance and won 73 medals in the recently concluded 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Austria. This year’s edition witnessed 2,600 athletes from over 105 countries competing with each other and the Special Olympics Bharat team won 37 gold, 10 silver and 26 bronze medals. This year’s Olympics even included disciplines like Alpine Skiing, Snow Boarding, Snow Shoeing, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Floor Hockey, Floor Ball and Unified Floor Ball, at the mega event.
Railways To Set Up Wi-Fi Hotspot Kiosks At 500 Stations To Help People Access Internet And Other Online Services
The Railways will set up Wi-Fi hotspot kiosks at about 500 stations in remote areas to help people access an array of online services, including various government schemes. Named Railwire Saathi, the Wi-Fi kiosks will function like Public Call Office or PCO for Digital India and will enable people to use services like e-commerce, online banking and offer them access to e-ticketing for train and bus services among others.
CAG To Audit Effect Of Demonetization On Indian Economy
The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) plans to audit the impact of demonetisation and the effect it has had on government tax revenues. CAG Shashi Kant Sharma said, he may look into expenditure on the printing of notes, the RBI dividend payout and banking transaction data. Mr. Sharma said that the CAG is also gearing up to audit tax revenues under the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime and has started capacity building and reorienting its audit methodology and procedures. The auditor has also conveyed to the government its stand on the recent move of the GST Council to delete section 65 of the preliminary draft that authorised the CAG to audit GST.
Merger Of Associate Banks With SBI To Take Effect From 1st April
The Government has announced that the merger of State Bank of India with its six Associate Banks will formally take place with effect from April 1st, 2017. With this merger, the combined entity, which will continue to be known as State Bank of India will become the second largest Bank in the world by the number of branches and the fourth largest in terms of assets. China’s ICBC has the largest number of branches. SBI reaffirms that all the process involved for the merger have been completed. The new entity will have a customer base of over 75 crore accounts. The total branch network of the new entity will be 17000 branches. Despite this mammoth size, SBI says it will be one of the fastest transitions and expects full data integration in a short span of six weeks.
GIC May Become The First PSU Insurance Co To Go Public
General Insurance Corporation (GIC Re) is likely to be the first Public Sector Insurance Company to tap the capital market as the Finance Ministry has started scouting for Merchant Bankers to manage the IPO. Currently, the Govt of India holds 100% stake in GIC Re which provides Reinsurance support to 54 General and Life Insurance Companies, both public and private, in the Indian Insurance market. As on 31st March 2016, the authorized and paid up capital of GIC Re were Rs 1000 Crores and Rs 430 Crores respectively.

Centre Chalks Out New Roadmap To Seal The International Borders With Bangladesh And Pakistan
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the Centre has chalked out a new roadmap to strengthen border security and plans to seal the International Borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan. He was addressing the Passing Out Parade of the BSF assistant commandants at the BSF Academy in Tekanpur in Madhya Pradesh yesterday. The Home Minister said four pilot projects have been approved to check infiltration through technical assistance. Mr. Singh also warned Pakistan against any attempts to breach ceasefire. The Home Minister said that the BSF personnel were authorised to take decisive action in the event of shooting by the other side after repeated ceasefire violations.
