It is these calculation tricks that help you reach your answer in less time and attempt more questions. Finding Squares of numbers is both frustrating and time consuming in a competitive exam.    In this post, which is the 12th in the series of smart methods, we will be discussing a method that will help you in finding squares with the blink of an eye.

What are Squares

In mathematics, a square number or perfect square is an integer that is the square of an integer; in other words, it is the product of some integer with itself. For example, 9 is a square number, since it can be written as 3 × 3.

Conventional Method of Finding Squares

Go back to school and recall how we were taught to calculate squares of numbers. It involves copious amount of paper work where we multiply both the numbers and reach the answer of 3969 in about 10 seconds.

Do we approve this method? No! It’s not a good idea to spend so much time when a calculation tricks can help you save all that time.

Smart Method of Finding Squares

Since you are preparing for competitive exams we are going to be presumptuous enough to believe that you know squares of numbers till 25 like the back of your hand as most calculation tricks makes effective use of it and the formula of (a+ b)2 = (a +  b)2= a2 + 2ab + b2

Step 1:
N2= (50 + y)2= 502 + (2 x 50 x y) + y2

Step 2:
N2= 2500 + 100y + y2

Step 3:
632= (50+ 13)2 = 2500+ (100 x 13) + 169= 2500+ 1300+ 169= 3969
If you notice, effectively there is only one step and one really simple calculation to get the right answer!
