Madhya Pradesh Becomes 1st State To Shift FY

Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to shift its financial year from the present April-March cycle to January-December. The state’s budget session for the next financial year would be held in December-January. Hence, the state government plans to finish the current budget proceedings by December this year. 
Shifting of the financial year format to January-December would require shifting of the tax assessment year. It also necessitates changes to be made in infrastructure especially at the level of companies.

India’s Second Tallest Flag Pole Inaugurated In Kolhapur

India’s second tallest flag pole has been Inaugurated in Kolhapur. The pole which is 303 feet high has been constructed in the Police training academy garden as a part of the Kolhapur beautification project. The poll is 90 metres tall and 60 metres wide and weighs 24 tonne. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the pole by unfurling a national flag of 5400sq ft as a part of the ‘Maharashtra Din’ celebrations in the state. The Police training academy garden which was also inaugurated is host to different types of flowering plants from India as well as other countries. The objective behind the development of the garden is to educate people about the Indian armed forces and police and to inspire the next generation to join them. As an attraction, murals depicting the struggle for independence from 1857 to 1947 have been created inside the garden. The country’s tallest flag pole is located at the Indo-Pak Attari Border and is 360 feet high.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar Launches Vidya-Veerta Abhiyan

The Minister for Human Resource and Development, Prakash Javadekar has launched Students for soldiers – a nationwide Vidya-Veerta Abhiyan to encourage universities and educational institutions across the country to display portraits of Param Veer Chakra-decorated soldiers. The portraits of Param Veer Chakra decorated soldiers were handed over to the Vice Chancellors of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia, Jammu and IIT Delhi, among others, to put it in their educational institutions. The “wall of heroes” depicting portraits of brave soldiers who showed exemplary bravery in defending the nation is expected to instil a sense of patriotism and nationalism among students.

Department Of Telecommunications Launches Portal For Information On Mobile Tower Radiation

The Department of Telecommunications has launched a web portal called the ‘Tarang Sanchar’ web portal that will allow tracking of radiation emitted from mobile towers within their locality and check for their compliance with the Electromagnetic field (EMF) emission norms defined by the government. The web portal is aimed at myths and misconceptions about mobile towers and emissions from them.

Tejas Express: New Premier Train Between Mumbai And Goa

Indian Railways is expected to launch a new 20 coach premier train called the Tejas Express connecting Mumbai and Goa in June. The Tejas service aims to provide comfort to passengers in the inter-city journeys. Once the Mumbai-Goa run becomes operational, the Railways is likely to extend the Tejas service in Delhi-Chandigarh route. The Tejas service was promised in the Union Railway Budget 2016-17. 
Salient features:
The Tejas Express will be the first train of Indian Railways to have automatic doors and secured gangways for all coaches. At present automatic doors are only operational in metro trains in the country. The coaches of Tejas Express would have integrated braille displays, digital destination boards, and electronic passenger reservation charts. The fare of the Tejas Express would be fixed similar to that of Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. The Tejas Express will have fire and smoke detection and suppression systems as well as improved aesthetics. The other facilities include tea and coffee vending machines, magazines and snack tables. In addition, passengers can enjoy the taste of choicest cuisine curated by celebrity chefs. All the coaches will have water level indicators in the bio-vacuum toilets. Individual LCD screens have been made available for all the passengers for entertainment purpose and for disseminating passenger related information and safety instructions.

Indian Army Successfully Test Fires Advanced Version Of Brahmos Missile

The Indian Army today successfully test-fired an advanced version of the Brahmos land-attack cruise missile in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, revalidating the weapon’s strike capability. The land-to-land configuration of Brahmos missile was launched from a mobile autonomous launcher (MAL). A senior army officer said in New Delhi that the test firing of the block-III version of the missile demonstrated the weapon’s unmatched lethality of hitting the centre of a designated target with bull’s eye precision. He said the supersonic cruise missile successfully hit the land-based target with desired precision in a top attack configuration, meeting all flight parameters in a copybook manner.

Centre Tells Supreme Court That Aadhaar Is Must To Check Misuse Of PAN Card

The government has told the Supreme Court that Aadhaar was made mandatory for PAN card to weed out fake PAN cards which were used for terror financing and circulation of black money. Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the court yesterday that the idea behind bringing Aadhaar was to have a secure and robust system to ensure that the identity of a person cannot be faked. The Attorney General also said, due to Aadhaar, the Centre has saved over 50,000 crore rupees on the benefit schemes for the poor as well as pension schemes. He said that it has helped in ensuring that the funds from government-run welfare schemes reached the persons who were entitled to it.

India To Achieve 7.1 % GDP Growth This Year: UN Report

A UN report has said, India is expected to achieve 7.1 percent growth this year as re-monetisation restores consumption, and infrastructure spending increases. The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific launched its annual flagship report ‘The Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2017’ yesterday. The report said that India’s growth would edge up to 7.5 percent next year. It also warned that the country faces heightened risks related to the concentration of bad loans in the public sector banks.

Dubai Becomes First City In World To Gets Its Own Microsoft Font

Dubai has become the first city in the world to have its own Microsoft-designed font. The font will have typeface both in Latin and Arabic script. It will be made available in 23 languages– Afrikaans, Arabic, Basque, Britannic, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Gaelic, German, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Norwegian, Farsi, Portuguese, Sami, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish and Urdu. The font was launched by the Crown Prince of Dubai Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The font will be used by UAE’s government bodies and also by 100 million Office 365 users around the world.

US Military Says, Its Latest Defence System Now Operational In South Korea To Intercept North Korean Missiles

US military has said, its THAAD missile defence system is now operational in South Korea. A spokesman for the US forces based in South Korea said that THAAD has the ability to intercept North Korean missiles and defend South Korea. Tensions have been rising around the Korean peninsula, with repeated threats from North Korea and the presence of a group of US warships and a submarine.

Mr Modi spoke to Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull over the phone today. The two leaders agreed that officials from both sides will remain in close touch on the issue. The two Prime Ministers also discussed the follow-up action taken after the visit of Mr Turnbull to India last month, and the steps required to further strengthen the bilateral relationship. Mr Turnbull thanked Mr Modi for the success of his recent visit to India.
