I-T dept notifies form for linking Aadhaar-PAN manual
The Income Tax Department has introduced a one-page form for taxpayers to manually apply for linking their Aadhaar with Permanent Account Number (PAN), apart from the available online and SMS facilities. An individual will have to mention both PAN and Aadhaar numbers and have to undertake a declaration stating they have not been allotted any other PAN than the one mentioned on the form. An official said, the form is just another procedure, via the paper medium. He said, the SMS and online modes are also available.
Over 29,000 pilgrims pay obeisance at Amarnath
More than 29,000 pilgrims paid obeisance at the Amarnath cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir in the first three days of the annual pilgrimage. The 40-day yatra began from the twin routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district on June 29 amid tight security arrangements. On the third day of the pilgrimage yesterday, 14,953 pilgrims offered prayers at the cave shrine raising the total number to 29,182, an official spokesperson said. The annual yatra in Kashmir had begun amid terror threats, prompting the authorities to mobilise the highest level of security measures, including satellite tracking system. The government has mobilised a heavy security blanket of over 35,000 to 40,000 troops including the police, Army, BSF and CRPF as part of the multi-tier security for the pilgrimage. The yatra will be eight days shorter this year against last year’s 48 days and conclude on Shravan Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) on August 7.
US-led coalition renews attack on IS in Raqa
US-backed fighters have launched a renewed attack on Islamic State group militants inside their Syrian bastion Raqa. Head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdel Rahman said that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) started a counter-offensive on Friday night to retake Al-Senaa. The SDF first ousted IS from Al-Senaa on June 12 but IS took back control again yesterday. Al-Senaa is key for both the Syrian Democratic Forces and IS because it is adjacent to the city centre
Telangana to have separate agriculture budget from next year
Telengana will have a separate budget for Agriculture from next year. This was decided after Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao met the Ministers and officials of Agriculture in Hyderabad yesterday. He said it has also been decided to enhance fund for agriculture sector. Mr. Rao said the State will provide training of modern and scientific methods of farming to increase the farm output. He urged the farmers associations at various levels to organize cultivation.
Govt imposes 10% customs duty on imported mobile phones, parts
The government has imposed 10 per cent basic customs duty on mobile phones and certain parts with immediate effect to boost domestic manufacturing. According to an official statement, 10 per cent customs duty, will be levied on imported cellular mobile phones and accessories such as charger, battery, wire headset, microphone and receiver, key pad, USB cable and other specified electronic goods. However, present exemption from basic customs duty on specified parts of mobiles will continue.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Venakiah Naidu says initial hiccups in implementation of GST will be sorted out soon
Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said the country attained economic independence with the implementation of GST. He was speaking at a programme organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in Hyderabad. Mr Naidu said, there will be initial hiccups but exuded confidence that it will be sorted out soon. He said, common people will be benefited due to the implementation of ‘One nation, One tax’. He termed the GST as the culmination of combined efforts of political leadership, bureaucracy and wisdom of people.
Maruti, Toyota, JLR, BMW cut car prices to pass on GST benefit
Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar JLR and BMW today reduced the prices in the range of Rs. 2,300 to over Rs. 2 lakh of different models to pass on to consumers the benefit of lower tax incidence under the GST regime. Country’s top automaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has slashed prices of most of its models by up to 3 per cent with immediate effect except for diesel versions of sedan Ciaz and MPV Ertiga with mild hybrid technology, which saw increase in prices by over Rs. 1 lakh. The company sells a range of vehicles from Alto 800 to S-Cross that were priced between Rs. 2.46 lakh to Rs. 12.03 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
