Odisha Government launches ‘Sampurna Yojana’
On 24th Sept 2017, the Orissa State Government announced the launching of the Sishu Abond Mathru Mitruhara Purna Nirakaran Abhijan (SAMPURNA) Yojna in the state. Under this scheme, the Orissa Govt will provide a sum of Rs. 1000 to pregnant women for transportation cost to the hospitals from inaccessible areas. The scheme covers villages where the 108 ambulances cannot reach.
Hunar Haat inaugurated in Pondicherry
On 24th Sept 2017, the Hunar Haat programme was inaugurated in Pondicherry by the Chief Minister of the state and the Union Minister for Minority Affairs. The programme will be open from 24th Sept to 30th Sept 2017. This provides an opportunity for artisans to showcase their talent and sell their products. Expert Artisans from more than 16 states are participating in the event.
New Interceptor boat V 409 launched
An indigenously built interceptor boat V 409 built by the Bharthi Defence and Infrastructure Limited was launched at the Mangalore port on 24th Sept 2017. The ship cost Rs.18 Cr to build and will be inducted into the Indian Coast Guard in the second half of October 2017. The ship has a capability to achieve very high speed in short distances and can operate in shallow waters as well.
7th Asem Economic Ministers’ Meeting held in Seoul
The Asia-Europe Meeting of Economic Ministers was held in the South Korean Capital city of Seoul on 21st and 22nd Sept 2017. The theme for this year’s meeting was “Innovative partnership for Inclusive prosperity”. Economic leaders from 30 European and 21 Asian countries participated in the meeting. The ASEM was founded in 1996 and has 53 member nations.
Dabur and Amazon tie-up
On 24th Sept 2017, it was announced that the FMCG major Dabur India has tied up with the E-Commerce giant Amazon for an online Ayurveda Marketplace. Dabur is India’s largest Ayurveda firm and was founded in 1884 by S.K. Burman, a doctor from West Bengal.
Arvind Subramanian gets One-year Extension
Chief Economist Adviser Arvind Subramanian has been given a One-year extension. His term was due to end in October 2017.He was appointed in October 2014.
India’s first female Doctorate of Science honoured by Google
Dr. Asima Chatterjee, the renowned chemist who was also the first female Doctorate in Science in India, was honoured by the international giant Google, on her 100th birthday. Asima Chatterjee’s research were related to the discovery of drugs that treated epilepsy and malaria. Her most acclaimed work was her work on vinca alkaloids. Vilka alkaloids are compounds made from plants, to treat medical ailments and are used in chemotherapy treatment because they slow down or stop the multiplying cancer cells in the body.
After a gap of 30 Years, Mizoram gets a woman Minister
After a gap of nearly 30 years, Mizoram got a female Minister when Ms. Vanlalawmpuii Chawngthu was sworn in as a Minister on 24th Sept 2017. She is only the second ever female minister in Mizoram. She will hold a Minister of State position. Aizwal is the capital of Mizoram and the Chief Minister is Pu Lalthanhawla.
The Shershah of Kargil-The Biography of Captain Vikram Batra
The book “Shershah of Kargil- the Biography of Captain Vikram Batra” was released recently. Vikram Batra was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra which is the highest gallantry award in India. The book was written by Deepak Surana and contains the chronology of the various achievements of Captain Vikram Batra.
Mary Kom will be the first Indian to represent world Boxing at IOC Forum
Famous Indian Boxer Mary Kom will become the first Indian to represent the world stage in boxing at the IOC Athletes’ forum in November 2017. The event will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland. The forum is held once in two years. The forum conducts discussions to make future plans and strategies for the sports people participating in the Olympic Games.
