Ganga Prasad sworn is as new Governor of Meghalaya   

Ganga Prasad was sworn in as the new Governor of Meghalaya on 5th October 2017 at Raj Bhavan in Shillong. The Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Prasad. Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul M Sangma including Cabinet Ministers and high ranking officials from the Armed Forces were also present on the occasion. Mr. Prasad was appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya by President Ram Nath Kovind on September 30.
India and Ethiopia sign agreements on trade, communication and media to boost bilateral ties           

On 5th October 2017, India and Ethiopia signed agreements on trade, communication and media to boost bilateral ties. The agreements were signed after wide-ranging talks between President Ram Nath Kovind and his Ethiopian counterpart Mulatu Teshome at Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. The two leaders discussed economic relations between the two countries and also support to Ethiopia in the power, healthcare, and education sectors. In a series of tweets, Mr. Kovind said, India has created jobs and contributed to the prosperity of Ethiopia. He referred to India as among the top three sources of foreign direct investment for Ethiopia. The President also thanked Ethiopia for its participation in the International Solar Alliance (ISA), established in 2015.
Government launches Paryatan Parv to boost tourism

The Union Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the other Ministries and State Governments have launched “Paryatan Parv”, an initiative to boost tourism in the country. The project is intended to showcase the diversity of the country and also reinforce the maxim “Tourism for all.” It was inaugurated at the Humayun’s Tomb and will be showcased across the country from  5th October to 25th October 2017. During this period “Adopt a Heritage project” launched by the Ministry of Tourism will be implemented at key sites.
Kazuo Ishiguro Wins 2017 Nobel Literature Prize    

British Author Kazuo Ishiguro, “who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world”, has been awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy announced. Sixty-four-year-old Mr. Ishiguro was born in Japan and his family moved to the United Kingdom when he was five. His most renowned novel, The Remains of the Day (1989), was turned into a film with Anthony Hopkins as the butler Stevens. The Swedish Academy in 2016, awarded the Nobel Literature Prize to U.S. counter-culture icon and rock star Bob Dylan.
Zafar Mahmood Abbasi is the new Chief of Pakistan’s Naval Staff         

Pakistan appointed Vice-Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi as new Chief of Naval Staff. He will replace Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah who will retire on 6 October. President Mamnoon Hussain approved the appointment of Abbasi on the advice of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. In Pakistan, all services chiefs are appointed by the president at the recommendation of the prime minister who has a final say in such appointments.
HDFC Life Insurance Company launches Neo, a servicing bot for Twitter    
HDFC Life Insurance Company has launched ‘Neo’, a servicing bot for Twitter that uses artificial intelligence for customer service. This is the second bot put in operation by HDFC Life, after the launch of SPOK, which was an email bot to answer customer queries. The Neo bot will be available 24/7 and has the capability to authenticate customers and give frequently sought details, like fund value, sum assured and premium amount. HDFC Life has launched Neo with SmartConnect Technologies. Aditya Puri is the CEO of HDFC Bank.
Forbes India Rich List 2017- Mukesh Ambani is the richest Indian for 10th year in a row            
Forbes Magazine has released its India Rich List for 2017, with Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani topping the charts for the 10th consecutive year with a net worth of 38 billion. Mr. Ambani is followed by tech czar Azim Premji who jumped two places with the net worth of 19 billion. Ranked third is the Hinduja brothers who added 3.2 billion to their net worth. According to Forbes, the combined net worth of the 100 richest Indians stood at 479 billion, a jump of 26% from 374 billion in 2016. Acharya Balkrishna, CEO of Patanjali Ayurved, figures at No. 19 with the net worth of 6.55 billion.

India wins its First Ever Wushu World Championship Gold  
Pooja Kadian became the first ever Indian sportsperson to win a gold medal at the Wushu World Championship in Kazan, Russia. Kadian, who competed in the women’s 75kg Sanda category, defeated Russia’s Evgeniya Stepanova in the final. Pooja, a head constable in the CRPF, had earlier won gold in the South Asian Games and silver in the 2013 World Championship.
