India has the 3rd highest family owned business: Credit Suisse

India has 108 publicly-listed family-owned businesses, third highest in the world, while China tops the tally with 167 such companies followed by the US which has 121, according to the Credit Suisse report. As per the Credit Suisse Research Institute’s (CSRI) latest “CS Family 1000” report, with an average market capitalisation of USD 6.5 billion, India ranks 5th in Asia Pacific excluding Japan, and 22nd globally, in terms of average m-cap.           

The top 5 countries in terms of number of family-owned companies include-     
1. China         
2. USA           
3. India          
4. France        
5. Hong Kong 

Average market capitalisation of family-owned companies is greatest in Spain (USD 30 billion), the Netherlands (USD 30 billion) and Japan (USD 24 billion).

3rd Global Investors’ India Forum held in New Delhi   
Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R. K. Singh addressed the 3rd Global Investors’ India Forum in New Delhi. The theme of the event was ‘Ideate, Innovate, Implement and Invest in India’ and it was attended by global industry stalwarts. In the forum, a major focus was given on generation of electricity and its distribution across the country. The event was organized by the ASSOCHAM. ASSOCHAM stands for Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India.
First Global Conference on Consumer Protection in India held in New Delhi  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a global conference on consumer protection in New Delhi. This is the first time that an international conference on consumer protection is being organized by India for countries of the region. The conference is deliberated upon steps taken by Asian countries to implement the UN guidelines on consumer protection as well as challenges faced by consumers of financial services and e-commerce. Twenty-two countries from East, South and South-East Asia are participating in the international conference. These include China, South Korea, Singapore, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Orissa to be the Focus State at World Food India 2017      

World Food India, the International Food Festival will be held in India from 3rd Nov to 5th Nov 2017. More than 200 companies from over 30 countries are expected to participate in the event. Orissa will be the “Focus State” at the event Orissa alone will set up 12 stalls in its pavilion, showcasing the various food items of the State including spices and seafood. Nearly 227 entrepreneurs from the State are expected to participate in the event.
Indian Origin Gina Miller named UK’s Most Influential Black person
Indian origin campaigner Gina Miller was named UK’s most influential black person of the year. Gina won a legal challenge seeking Parliamentary approval for triggering Brexit. 52-year-old Miller ranked on top in the 2018 ‘Powerlist’ of 100 people of African and African Caribbean inheritance published in London by Powerful Media. Gina Miller is an investment fund manager and philanthropist. She took a legal action against British Prime Minister Theresa May demanding that individual members of the Cabinet have no legal power to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.
Netherlands opens first 3D printed bridge to cyclists   
On 24th October 2017, Netherlands opened the world’s first 3D printed concrete bridge for the use of cyclists. The bridge is 26 feet long and less than 12 feet wide. The bridge is made of pre-stressed reinforced concrete. It took nearly 3 months to print the bridge and consumed 800 layers. The bridge was commissioned by the province of North Brabant and led by the infrastructure company BAM Infra. The bridge’s elements were printed locally.
China to get the first Tesla factory outside the USA  
The Electric Car Maker Tesla is setting up its first plant outside the USA in China, which is the world’s biggest car market. Tesla has struck a deal with the Shanghai municipality by which Tesla will retain ownership of the company with itself.
L&T Technology Services conferred with the India Innovation Award 2017  

On 24th October 2017, the L&T Technology Services Ltd was conferred with the India Innovation Award 2017, at a function in New Delhi. The award is given to the most innovative company in the services sector by the CII. It is considered very prestigious. The CII praised L&T Technology Services’ efforts to create a collaborative ecosystem comprising of global technology firms and reputed Indian companies and also their breakthrough research conducted across their different laboratories.
E-Book Titled India 2017 Year Book launched         

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje launched an e-book titled ‘India 2017 Yearbook’, compiled by the present Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Rajiv Mehrishi. The e-book includes a plethora of information on important dignitaries, state policy, public schemes and important data about demographics, trade, economy and many other topics. Mc Graw Hill is Education is the publisher of the e-book. Rajiv Mehrishi was the former Union home secretary of India. Kalyan Singh is the present governor of Rajasthan.
Alok Kumar Pateria appointed as Additional Director General of CISF  

The Union Government has appointed Alok Kumar Pateria as the next Additional Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He is an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) and will be on deputation to CISF till 2020. The Director General of CISF is O.P. Singh.
First International Day of Diplomats celebrated on October 24th  

The first International Day of Diplomats was celebrated in Brasilia on 24th October 2017. It was attended by Diplomats from India, Brazil, Bangladesh, France, Ghana, Israel, Italy, Mexico, South Africa and Turkey. The day was celebrated to honour the diplomats and their families for the hard work and sacrifices put in by them in their career. This has gained wide support from the International Community including diplomats of several other countries.
