International Children’s Film Festival begins in Hyderabad          

The International Children’s Film Festival, popularly known as the Golden Elephant began in Hyderabad on  8th November 2017. Children’s films from many countries are being screened at the event, which is expected to draw large crowds. The festival will conclude on Children’s Day – November 14th, 2017.

Chennai included in International list of Creative cities for contribution to music     
Chennai has been included in the UNESCO’s list of creative cities for its contribution to music, in the form of Carnatic music. It is amongst the 64 cities from 44 countries that were included in the list of creative cities. With the addition of these 64 cities, the total number of Creative Cities as per UNESCO has gone up to 180 cities in 72 countries. Chennai becomes the third Indian city to be added to the list after Jaipur (music) and Varanasi (City of Crafts and Folk Arts) were added in 2016.
Hong Kong remains most visited city by International Travellers           

Hong Kong remains the world’s most visited city by international travellers in spite of strained relations with neighbouring China. In a report on the top 100 city destinations that highlights the growth in Asian tourism, market research firm Euro monitor International said 25.7 million arrivals are expected in Hong Kong in 2017. The figure is down 3.2 percent compared with 2016.

Additional train service between Kolkata and Bangladesh launched    

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated the long-awaited direct train-service between Kolkata and Khulna through video-conferencing. The new train service is called Bandhan Express. It is the second cross-border train between the two neighbouring countries. The train will run in either direction twice a week and cover the 177 km distance between Kolkata and Khulna within 4 1/2 hours.
  • Bandhan Express will run between Kolkata (India) and Khulna (Bangladesh).
  • The capital of Bangladesh is  Dhaka and its Currency is Bangladeshi Taka.
  • The Prime Minister of Bangladesh is  Sheikh Hasina while its President is  Abdul Hamid.
Tulsi Gabbard named Chairperson of Word Hindu Congress 2018       

Tulsi Gabbard, the first Hindu lawmaker in the U.S. Congress, has been named as the chairperson of the World Hindu Congress to be held in Chicago next year, organisers of the mega event announced on 8th November 2017. Held once every four years, World Hindu Congress (WHC) is a global platform for Hindus to connect, share ideas, inspire one another and impact the common good. Organised by the World Hindu Foundation, the first Congress was held in New Delhi in 2014. The second WHC will take place in Illinois in Chicago from September 7 to 9 2018.
First ever Sikh Mayor of US City  
An Indian American,  Ravinder Bhalla became the first ever Mayor of a city in the United States. He was elected as the Mayor of Hoboken City in New Jersey.

IDFC Bank enters into strategic alliance with Mobikwik    

IDFC Bank has entered into a “strategic alliance” with mobile wallet major MobiKwik to launch a co-branded virtual Visa prepaid card for customers of MobiKwik. An important feature of this alliance is one need not be a customer of IDFC Bank to use the co-branded prepaid card.

PayPal launches Domestic Payments in India          

American digital payments company PayPal launched domestic operations in India. At launch, Indian consumers will be able to make transactions at select online merchants. Merchants offering PayPal will be able to process both local and global payments through the platform, getting access to PayPal’s more than 200 million customers around the world and in India through a single integration. However, customers in India will not be able to store any money in their PayPal accounts as the company is yet to receive a prepaid payment instrument (PPI) licence from the RBI.

HDFC Bank launches Smart up zone in Kochi         

HDFC Bank has announced the launch of its SmartUp Zone in Kochi, an exclusive area inside the branch dedicated for start-ups. SmartUp Zones will be launched in over 65 branches in 30 cities across India, including tier 2 and 3 cities that are emerging as start-up hubs. The objective is to harness the potential of the startup and fintech eco-system using a multi-pronged approach.
  • The  CEO of HDFC Bank is Aditya Puri and its headquarters is in Mumbai.
