Uber inks one of the largest private sector starts up deals with Soft Bank
Uber Technologies Inc. approved SoftBank Group Corp.’s offer to buy a multibillion-dollar stake in the ride-hailing company, setting the stage for one of the largest private start-up deals ever. The agreement lets Soft Bank and other firms invest up to 1 billion dollars in Uber and proceed with a tender offer in coming weeks to buy up to 9 billion dollars in shares from existing investors. The deal also includes Uber governance changes.

Child Rights week “Hausala 2017” to be held from 16th to 20th November 2017 by Union Govt
The Ministry of Women and Child Development would be celebrating the Child Rights Week by hosting ‘Hausala 2017’
festival from 16-20 November 2017. The festival will be hosted by the Ministry as an Inter CCI Festival for the children who reside in Child Care Institutions (CCIs). The week was chosen as the nation celebrates the Children’s Day on 14 November
and the International Child Rights Day
is celebrated annually on 20th November

India’s first Cartoon Network theme park to come up in Gujarat
India will soon have the first Cartoon Network-branded theme park. Turner International India, which owns the Cartoon Network brand, has entered into a brand partnership with Gujarat based real estate, entertainment and hospitality group Rajgreen for the launch of a 61,000 square meter property Amaazia, in Surat. To be launched in the first quarter of 2019 on a budget of Rs 450 crore, the amusement park will be located at Surat, in Gujarat. Amaazia will be Cartoon Network’s first brand association for an amusement park in India.
- In Asia, it has two such partnerships, Cartoon Network Amazon Water Park in Pattaya, Thailand and in IMG Worlds of Adventure in Dubai it has an entire Cartoon Network Zone.
Varanasi is the most polluted city in India as per official survey
A report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
has found that the air quality of holy city Varanasi is most polluted among the 42 cities monitored recently. Varanasi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was at an alarming 491, followed by Gurugram at 480, Delhi at 468, Lucknow at 462 and Kanpur at 461. Notably, pollution level is categorized as ‘severe’ when the AQI ranges between 401 and 500.
- Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in the world and is the Lok Sabha constituency of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India sixth most vulnerable country to face extreme weather events in the world
India is the sixth most vulnerable country in the world in terms of facing extreme weather events, according to the report released by the Germanwatch. The top 5 countries in the list are-
4. Sri Lanka and 5. Vietnam.
The Germanwatch is an independent Berlin-based development and environmental organisation and it has released its latest global climate risk index (CRI). The Index put the United States (US) at 10th position. India was at number four in terms of CRI ranking in 2016.
Bhaskar Ganguly appointed ombudsman by Supreme Court
The Supreme Court has appointed former football captain Bhaskar Ganguly as ombudsman, according to the All India Football Federation (AIFF). As per the AIFF, the apex court also appointed S Y Quraishi, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, who has also served as Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India as the ombudsmen to formulate the AIFF Constitution.

Pankaj Advani lifts the 17th world Billiards title of his career
On 12th November 2017, Pankaj Advani clinched his 17th world title at Doha after thrashing his arch-rival Mike Russell of England 6-2 to defend the 150-up format title which he won in Bengaluru last year. Advani, winner of the maximum number of world titles in any sport by an Indian, earlier in the semi-finals overcome fellow Indian Rupesh Shah 5-2, while Russell got the better of Singapore’s Peter Gilchrist 5-1. Advani will be eyeing a ‘Grand Double’ as the lengthier format (long-up) of the IBSF World Billiards Championship 2017 begins on 13th November at Doha.
Leander Paes and Purav Raja win Knoxville Challenger tournament
In Tennis, Leander Paes and Purav Raja have lifted Knoxville Challenger men’s doubles title at Tennessee in the United States. The top-seeded Indians defeated American-Australian duo of James Cerretani and John Patrick Smith 7-6, 7-6 in the final of the men’s doubles ATP challenger at the indoor hard court of Goodfriend Tennis Center on 12th November 2017.
Air India gets Rs 1500 Cr loan from Bank of India
National carrier Air India has got a loan of Rs 1500 Cr from PSU Bank of India to meet its working capital requirements. The tender for the same was floated by Air India in October 2017. In Sept 2017, Air India had borrowed Rs 3250 Cr from Indus Ind Bank and Punjab National Bank also to meet working capital requirements. The debt burden of Air India is more than Rs 50000 Cr.

12th of November is observed every year in India as the National Public Service Broadcasting Day. It was on 12th November 1947 that Mahatma Gandhi made his first and only public address on All India Radio.
November 12th – World Pneumonia Day
12th November is observed as the World Pneumonia Day all over the world. The Day was first observed in 2009 when over 100 organisations joined to form the Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia. The Day helps to highlight the severity of the disease and find out ways to combat the dreaded disease. It is estimated that every 20 seconds, a child in the world dies of pneumonia.
