Haryana announces lifetime pension for Hindi Satyagrahis         

The state government of Haryana has announced lifetime monthly pension of Rs 10,000 for ‘Hindi Satyagrahis’ and those from the state who were jailed during the Emergency. The state government also announced that it would be providing enhanced financial assistance to World War-II veterans and their widows. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu was the Chief Guest for the occasion.

India – Russia Joint Military Exercise Indra-2017 successfully completed       

The Joint Indo-Russia Tri-Services Exercise INDRA-2017 was successfully conducted at Vladivostok in Russia. The name of the exercise INDRA has been derived from India and Russia. Exercise INDRA-2017 is the first Joint Tri-Services Exercise between Russia and India.  This is also the first time that Russia has hosted a Tri-Services Exercise on its soil. The theme of Exercise INDRA-2017 was ‘Preparation and Conduct of Operations by a Joint Force for Suppression of International Terror Activity at the request of a host country under UN mandate’.
Vikas Seth appointed CEO of Bharti AXA Life Insurance       
Bharti AXA Life Insurance, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and AXA, has appointed Vikas Seth as Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is subject to requisite IRDAI approval. Prior to joining Bharti AXA Life, he was with the Aditya Birla Group, where he worked for nearly 10 years in different roles. He has also served as the Chief Distribution Officer for Birla Sun Life Insurance.
  •         Bharti AXA Life is a life Insurance company that was started in 2006.   
  •         It brings together the Paris-headquartered AXA Group and Bharti Enterprises. 
  •         The joint venture has a 51% stake from Bharti and 49% stake from AXA.

T.V.Narendran becomes Global MD and CEO of Tata Steel        
Tata Steel has elevated T V Narendran as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director globally. He was appointed as Managing Director of Tata Steel for India and South East Asia on November 1, 2013. Koushik Chatterjee has been reappointed as Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer for a period of 5 years with effect from November 9, 2017.
SBI and World Bank sanction Rs 2317 Cr for Roof Top Solar Projects 

On 30th October 2017, the State Bank of India and the World Bank announced the sanction of Rs. 2317 Cr aid for seven companies for setting up grid-connected rooftop solar projects. These projects will generate about 575 MW of electricity. The seven companies are the Adani Group, Hinduja Renewables, JSW Energy, Tata Renewable, Azure Power, Cleantech Solar and Hero Solar Energy.
PFRDA increases maximum entry age of joining NPS to 65 years         

Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has increased the maximum age of joining National Pension Scheme (NPS) Private Sector from the 60 to 65 years of age to increase the pension coverage in the country. Now, any Indian citizen, resident or non-resident, between the age of 60- 65 years can join the NPS and continue up to the age of 70 years. The increase in joining age will provide the options to the subscribers who are at the fag-end of the employment and expecting lump-sum amount at the time of retirement.     
Subscriber joining NPS after the age of 60 years will have an option of normal exit from the scheme after completion of 3 years. In this case, the subscriber will be required to utilize at least 40 percent of the corpus for the purchase of an annuity and the remaining amount can be withdrawn in lump-sum. However, if the subscriber wants to exit from NPS before completion of 3 years, he or she will have to utilize at least 80 percent of the corpus for the purchase of the annuity and the remaining can be withdrawn in a lump sum.
Suresh Chukkapalli appointed Honorary Consul General of South Korea in India   
Suresh Chukkapalli, Chairman of Phoenix Group of Hyderabad, has been appointed as Honorary Consul General in Hyderabad by the Republic of Korea, with consular jurisdiction over the state of Telangana. Suresh Chukkapalli was given charge/invested formally at a ceremony in New Delhi. South Korea is the fourth largest economy in Asia and the 11th largest in the world known for its global corporations.
Vikram Singh Appointed Private Secretary to President   

Railway officer Vikram Singh was appointed Private Secretary to President Ram Nath Kovind. Singh is a 1997 batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment to the post for a period of two years. IAS officer P C Meena was appointed Private Secretary to Minister of State for Commerce and Industry C R Chaudhary.
October 31st celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Divas    

India celebrates October 31 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day). This day marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played an instrumental role in the integration of princely state with Indian Union post-independence. Prime Minister Modi also flagged off the 1.5 km ‘Run for Unity’ event at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. The Celebration of October 31 as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014.
October 31st – World Savings Day      

October 31st is celebrated as the World Savings Day all over the world. It is also called the World Thrift Day. The theme for the World Savings Day 2017 is “Our future starts with savings”. The World Savings day was established in 1924, during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress (World Society of Savings Banks) in Milano, Italy.
Martina Hingis announces retirement from tennis   

Martina Hingis, one of only six women’s players to hold the No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles at the same time, will retire after the WTA Finals. Hingis, 37, won Grand Slam titles No. 24 and 25 at the US Open in September, capturing the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles.  Overall, she won 13 major doubles titles, along with five in singles and seven in mixed doubles. She held the world No. 1 ranking for 209 weeks during her career, winning 43 WTA singles titles and 64 doubles titles.   
  •   Martina Hingis is from Switzerland.           
  •  She is the youngest Grand Slam champion in history, having won the Wimbledon doubles title when she was just 15.   
  •  Hingis was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2013.
 Punjab Government constitutes committee for Sports University in Patiala    

The Punjab Government has constituted a committee under Ranbir Singh to set up a Sports University in Patiala. The same has been set up under the Sports and Youth Affairs Department of the state. The Committee also includes Olympian Pargat Singh, J.S.Narulla and Dr. Ranawat. They will go into the entire modalities of setting up the University.
Birendra Prasad Bhaishya re-elected President of Indian Weightlifting Federation    
On 30th October 2017, Birendra Prasad Bhaishya was re-elected as the President of the Indian Weightlifting Federation. Sharad Yadav was elected the Secretary General. The Federation also consists of seven Vice Presidents. The headquarters of the IWLF is in New Delhi.
