Haryana signs deals worth more than Rs 2000 cr at World Food India
The Haryana government has signed initial pacts worth Rs. 2,069 crore with 44 agro-based and food processing enterprises and establishments that will provide employment to 5,012 persons. The MoUs were signed in the presence of State Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at the Haryana Session on the second day of the three-day World Food India organised in the national capital.
Goa to host Nobel Prize Event in 2018
The Goa government signed a trilateral MoU with the Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India (GoI) and Nobel Media, Sweden to hold the ‘Nobel Prize Series — India 2018 (Science Impacts Life)’ to be held from February 1-28, 2018 in Goa along with a month-long exhibition brought from Nobel Museum, Sweden. The Nobel series has earlier been organised in Gujarat.
Govt launches Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojna for school children
On 3rd November 2017, the Government launched an All India Scholarship programme for children called SPARSH Yojna. SPARSH stands for Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude and Research in Stamps as a Hobby. Annual scholarships will be awarded to school children in the classes VI to IX who have a good academic record as well as interest in philately.
Asia’s Largest Island Building ship launched in China
China unveiled Asia’s largest artificial island-building ship. The 140-metre-long vessel, which has been dubbed as “magic island maker”, is capable of digging 6,000 cubic metres an hour, which is equivalent to three standard swimming pools. The vessel is expected to be delivered in June 2018 after being tested completely. The boat named Tian Kun Hao is equivalent to three standard swimming pools.
Kazakhstan to change its name by 2025
Kazakhstan has announced that it will be changing its name to Qazaqstan by the year 2025. The Kazakhstan Government has announced that since Latin is used by 70% of world population, changing to a Latin-based alphabet for its name is a part of the exercise to have better global communication.
Air New Zealand adjudged “Airline of the Year”
Air New Zealand has been adjudged the “Airline of the Year 2018” by Airline Ratings.com. The airline has been adjudged the airline of the year for the fifth consecutive year based on 12 key criteria, including operational safety, efficiency of management, in-flight innovations, record-breaking performance, fleet age, staff relations, passenger reviews etc. The other four in the Top 5 are Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia and Virgin Atlantic.
Bajaj Alliance comes out with first Insurance Policy for Cyber Crime
Private sector Bajaj Alliance has come out with India’s first Insurance Policy for Cyber Crimes for individual victims. The sum assured will range from Rs. 1 Lac to Rs. 1 Crore. Under this policy, insurance will be provided against online fraud, identity theft, cyberstalking and extortion, phishing and malware attack. The premium will depend on the number of hours the individual spends online and will proportionately increase.
November 5th – World Tsunami Awareness Day
The World Tsunami Awareness Day was observed across the world on 5 November. The theme for 2017 WTAD is ‘Reduce the Number of Affected People’. The day is celebrated to spread awareness among people across the world in matters related to the dangers of tsunami. The first WTAD was observed across the world in 2016 with the theme ‘Effective Education and Evacuation Drills’. In the year 2004, the world witnessed the killer Tsunami which affected more than 15 countries including India.
Srirangam Temple wins UNESCO Award
The Sri Ranganathar Temple in Srirangam, Trichy, Tamil Nadu has won a UNESCO Asia Pacific Order of Merit Award 2017 for Cultural heritage conservation. The use of traditional methods in the renovation of temple structures and re-establishment of rainwater harvesting and drainage system were the main reasons why the temple was bestowed with this award. It is the first temple in Tamil Nadu to be given an award by a UN body.
Mary Kom Named Youth World Championships Ambassador
Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist MC Mary Kom has been named as the ambassador of the upcoming AIBA Women’s Youth World Championships. The event, which is being hosted in Guwahati, Assam is scheduled to be held from November 19 to 26. The 34-year-old is currently in Vietnam for the Asian Championships and has reached the semi-finals of the tournament.
Indian women’s Hockey Team Wins Second Asia Cup title after 13 Years
On 5th November 2017, the India women’s hockey team qualified for next year’s World Cup by winning the Asia Cup hockey title. In a nail-biting final at Kakamigahara in Japan, they overcame China 5-4 via a shootout. At full time, both teams were level One-One. India took the lead through Navjot Kaur in the 25th minute. But China found a late equaliser through Tiantian Luo, who converted a penalty corner in the 47th minute. South Korea secured third place with a 1-0 win over Japan earlier in the day. India had to wait long for their second Women’s Asia Cup title with the last one coming way back in 2004, when they had beaten Japan in New Delhi for the trophy. The triumph of the Indian women’s team follows the Asia Cup victory of the men’s side last month.
Shiv Kapur Wins Asian Golf Tour Title in New Delhi
Shiv Kapur has clinched his first Asian Tour title in India. At the Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi on 5th Nov 2017, he bagged the Panasonic Open by three strokes after bringing home a card of four-under 68 in the fourth and final round. Kapur had won the Yeangder Heritage in April and finished second at the Thailand Open this season. He had won his first Asian tour title in 2005 at the Volvo Masters of Asia.
