Poonguzhali becomes the first woman to be appointed as Senior DDG of TERM

N Poonguzhali has become the first woman to be appointed as Senior Deputy Director General, Tamil Nadu, Telecom Enforcement Resource Monitoring (TERM), Department of Telecommunications (DoT). She is an Indian telecom service officer of the 1979 batch and an alumnus of IIT Madras. She also bagged the distinguished woman engineer’s award by the Institute of Engineers. Prior to joining, she served BSNL as Chief General Manager, Tamil Nadu Circle.
Indian Railways launches the main arc in the World’s highest bridge on Chenab   
Indian Railways has launched the main arc of the World’s highest bridge on the river Chenab. The bridge will be 359 meters above the bed of the river Chenab and will be taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris by about 30 meters. The bridge is the link in the 111 km distance between Katra and Banihal. The bridge is 1.3 km long and cost Rs. 1250 Cr to construct.
Banganapalle Mangoes and six other products get GI Tag          

The world famous mangoes from Andhra Pradesh, the Banganapalle mangoes and six other products got the GI Tag for the year 2017-18 by the Indian patent office. Other products which have won the GI tag this year are the Pochampally Ikat of Telangana; Tulapanji rice and Gobindobhog Rice of West Bengal; Chakshesang Shawl of Nagaland; Durgi Stone Carvings and Etikoppaka Toys of Andhra Pradesh. Geographical Indications or GI is the name or sign given to certain products which are peculiar to a certain region.
Tokyo’s first bot gains residency         

With Microsoft as a joint developer, an Artificial Intelligence character was given residency of a central district in Tokyo, Japan. He does not exist physically but is a chatty seven-year-old boy. The virtual boy was named “Shibuya Mirai”. This makes him Japan’s first artificial intelligence character to be given residency of the country.
India’s Largest CDQ Facility at Tata Steel Kalinganagar    

Tata Steel has established India’s largest Coke Dry Quenching (CDQ) facility, capable of handling 200 metric tonnes per hour, at its state-of-the-art steel plant at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur district of Odisha. CDQ is a heat recovery system to cool hot coke from coke ovens. It is one of the best energy-efficient and environment-friendly facility in steel production where hot coke removed from coke ovens at a temperature of around 1,000 degree Celsius is cooled and kept dry with the inert gas. Natarajan Chandrasekaran is the Chairman of TATA Steels.
Rs. 10000 cr MoU signed between Govt of India and Patanjali     

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) of Rs. 10,000 Crore was signed between the Government of India (GoI) and Patanjali at the World Food India 2017. The MoU was signed by Managing Director of Patanjali, Acharya Balkrishna and Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing in the Government of India. Patanjali climbed to 19th in the Forbes magazine’s Annual India Rich List 2017.
ICICI Bank launches India’s first Voice Based International Remittance Facility      
ICICI Bank announced the launch of India’s first voice-based international remittance service to enable non-resident Indians (NRIs) to send money to any bank in India. With this new feature in the ICICI Bank’s Money2India app, an NRI customer can instantly initiate a remittance to his/her existing payees in India with just a simple voice command to Apple’s virtual voice assistant, Siri, on their iPhone/iPad.

  •         ICICI Bank is India’s largest private sector bank by consolidated assets. 
  •         It is first-of-its-kind cross-border remittance service by a bank in the country.

New Finance Secretary Appointed by the Union Government     

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has designated Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia as the new Finance Secretary. The vacancy was caused following the superannuation of Ashok Lavasa last month. Mr. Adhia is a 1981 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre. As per the convention, the senior most Secretary in the Finance Ministry is designated as the Finance Secretary.
Vishnudas Bhave Award conferred on Mohan Joshi         

On 5th November 2017, veteran actor Mohan Joshi has conferred the prestigious Vishnudas Bhave Award for his contribution to theatre. The award consists of a trophy, citation and a cash prize of Rs. 25000. 
Aditi Ashok wins her third LET Title          

19 Year old Indian golfer Aditi Ashok made her returns to the Ladies European Tour by clinching the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi. It is Aditi’s third LET win in less than 12 months. Aditi Ashok has also won the Hero Indian Open and Qatar Ladies Open in 2016.
India finishes with 20 Medals at Commonwealth Shooting Championships   
India ended the Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Brisbane, Australia, with a rich haul of 20 medals after Satyendra Singh won a gold and Sanjeev Rajput a silver in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event. The Indian squad won a total of six gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals during the competition. In the men’s Trap event at the Shotgun ranges, Birendeep Sodhi was the lone Indian to qualify for the six-man final round.
