Kacheguda becomes India’s first Energy Efficient Railway Station       

Kacheguda Railway Station in Hyderabad under the South Central Railway (SCR) has earned the unique distinction of being the first Energy Efficient ‘A1 Category’ Railway Station on Indian Railways. The station has achieved 100% energy efficiency by replacing 1,312 conventional lights with light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, among other steps. Kacheguda Railway station is a historic building and had completed 100 years. The station was built in 1916 by the Nizam’s Guaranteed State Railway during the reign of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad

Kanchanmala Pande wins India’s first World Para-Swimming Championship Gold Medal  

Nagpur’s Kanchanmala Pande created history as she became the first Indian to secure pole position at the World Para-Swimming Championship in Mexico. The 26-year-old swimmer won gold in the 200-meter medley event in the S-11 category and was also the only Indian to qualify for the women’s category. Unfortunately, she missed a podium finish in the 100 meters freestyle and came fifth in the breaststroke and backstroke category
“Silence Breakers” voted “Person of the year “by Times Magazine  
The Silence Breakers”, the vanguard of a global movement by millions of women to share their stories of sexual harassment and abuse, was revealed to be Time magazine’s Person of the Year. Time Magazine has recognized the women who came forward with sexual assault allegations as its 2017 Person of the Year, calling individuals such as Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan, “the voices that launched a movement.” The faces of five women – including singer Taylor Swift and actor Ashley Judd – feature on the magazine’s 2017 Person of the Year cover.
Kerala government increases minimum age for drinking from 21 to 23

The Kerala government has decided to raise the legal drinking age from 21 to 23 years. The State Cabinet in a meeting decided to introduce a new ordinance raising the minimum age for liquor consumption from 21 to 23. The Ordinance will amend the Abkari Act. The previous UDF regime had adopted a policy in favour of prohibition by shutting down bars and closing doors on state-run liquor vending outlets.
India and Israel open centre for floriculture in Tamil Nadu

On 7th December 2017, India and Israel formally opened a centre for floriculture in Thally of Krishnagiri District in Tamil Nadu. This centre is the first one to be set up with the assistance of Mashev, Israel’s agency for international development cooperation in the ministry of foreign affairs. This centre and the upcoming one at Dindigul also in Tamil Nadu are part of a three year Indo Israeli partnership for agriculture.
Australia joins International Solar Alliance    

On the 6th December 2017, Australia announced that it was joining the International Solar Alliance. The country, which is a world leader in solar energy, will now share its expertise in solar technology and research with the other member countries of the International Solar Alliance. In Australia, about 17 % of the households have rooftop solar panels which is the highest per capita in the world. The International Solar Alliance is an alliance of countries which are located either completely or partly between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. It was launched in 2015.
Tesla builds world’s biggest lithium-ion battery in Australia        

The world’s biggest lithium-ion battery built by Tesla has been plugged into the Australian electrical guild. The lithium-ion battery has the capacity to power 30,000 homes for up to one hour in the event of a blackout. The batteries are installed in the Outback town of Jamestown situated about 120 km from the South Australia capital Adelaide.
World’s heaviest bony fish discovered in Japan     

The world’s heaviest bony fish, weighing about 2300 kgs, have been discovered in Japan. The fish is a Mola Alexandria bump head skin fish, as per the researchers from Hiroshima University who discovered the same. Bony fish have skeletons made of bones rather than cartilage. Ocean sunfishes have the world’s largest bony fish.
7th December – Indian Armed Forces Flag Day       

On the 7th December, the Indian Armed Forces Flag Day was celebrated across the country. The day has been observed since 1949 on the 7th December to honour the soldiers, airmen and sailors of Indian Army, Airforce and Navy. On this day, funds are collected from the people for the welfare of the Armed Forces personnel.
7th December – International Civil Aviation Day      

The 7th December is celebrated as the International Civil Aviation Day across the world. The theme for the day 2017 is “Working together to ensure that no country is left behind”. The purpose of the Day is to ensure that worldwide awareness is generated about the importance of civil aviation to the social and economic development of nations. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) was established in 1947 and its Headquarters is in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Current Secretary-General is Fang Liu.
