China starts world’s biggest floating solar unit        

A unit of China Three Gorges Corp. is building a 1 billion yuan ($151 million) floating solar power plant, the world’s biggest, in the nation’s eastern province of Anhui. China Three Gorges New Energy Co. started building the 150-megawatt project in July and part of the plant was connected to the grid. The project features panels fixed to floats on the surface of a lake that formed after a coal mine collapsed, according to the unit. The entire facility is expected to come online by May 2018.
Rahul Gandhi Elected Congress President  
 
The Indian National Congress announced that Rahul Gandhi has been elected as its new President, taking over from his mother Sonia Gandhi. Rahul was declared the party President after no other candidate filed a nomination to contest the presidential elections. The Congress had earlier announced that 89 nominations were filed proposing Rahul Gandhi’s candidacy for the presidential elections.
Pradeep Singh Kharola takes over as CMD of Air India     

Senior IAS officer Pradeep Singh Kharola took charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India. Kharola assumed charge from Rajiv Bansal. He was the managing director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd since February 2015. Air India was founded on 15 October 1932 (as Tata Airlines) and its Headquarters is in Delhi.
Lalji Singh, pioneer of DNA fingerprinting passes away    

Lalji Singh, a pioneer of DNA fingerprinting technology in India and former Vice-Chancellor of Benares Hindu University, BHU (2011 to 2014), passed away at the age of 70. Lalji Singh and his team developed the indigenous probe that was first applied to settle paternity disputes in the late 1980s at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad.
India International Exchange (India INX) receives approval for debt securities  
        
BSE’s India International Exchange (India INX) has received approval from the capital market regulator SEBI on the framework for the listing of debt securities. The move will enable Indian and foreign issuers to issue masala bonds, Eurobonds, and foreign currency bonds from India INX at International Financial Service Centre (IFSC) at Gujarat International Finance Tech (GIFT) for the first time.    
  • SEBI– Securities and Exchange Board of India.       
  • The Chairman of SEBI is Ajay Tyagi and its Headquarters is in Mumbai.
Maruti Suzuki replaces SBI as India’s 6th most valuable firm    
   
India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki became India’s sixth most valued firm, crossing India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI). Maruti Suzuki’s market capitalization stood at Rs 2.73 trillion, marginally ahead of SBI’s market value of Rs 2.70 trillion. Reliance Industries is the country’s most valued company with a market value of Rs 5.83 trillion, followed by TCS, HDFC Bank, ITC and Hindustan Unilever in that order.   
  • The first car from the company Maruti 800 was launched in 1983.          
  • Head office of Maruti Suzuki in India is in New Delhi.
Uma Shankar Appointed as Executive Director of RBI   
   
Uma Shankar, chief general manager (CGM) in charge of the Reserve Bank of India’s financial inclusion and development department has taken over as executive director (ED) in the central bank. Shankar has been elevated after Meena Hemchandra the executive director in charge of the central bank’s supervision department retired recently. 
  • The RBI was established in 1935 and its Headquarters is in Mumbai.      
  • The 24th and Current Governor of RBI is Dr. Urjit Patel.
Australia beats Argentina to win Gold Medal in Hockey World League Final   
On 10th December 2017, Australia defeated Rio Olympics champions Argentina 2-1 in the final of the Hockey World League Final to win gold at Bhubaneswar. Goals from Blake Govers and Jeremy Hayward helped the defending champions beat Argentina at Kalinga Stadium. Australia and Argentina were tied 1-1 after three-quarters of the match. Australia scored first through Hayward in the 17th minute while Argentina equalised through Agustin Bugallo. Govers scored the winner from a penalty corner with just three minutes left in the game.
Aadhar –PAN linking deadline extended to 31st March 2018 
      
On 8th December 2017, the Union Government extended the last date for linking the Aadhar with the PAN to the 31st March 2018. This is the third extension given by the Government.

SBI changes names and IFSC Codes of nearly 1300 branches   
Post the merger of its five associates, State Bank of India has changed names and IFSC codes of nearly 1,300 of its branches. The country’s largest lender has changed the names and IFSC codes of branches located in major cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Lucknow, among others. The bank has close to 23,000 branches and has put up the list of branches with old and new names and IFSC codes on its website.    
Indian Financial System Code, or IFSC, is an 11-digit alpha-numeric code used to uniquely identify all bank branches participating in any RBI regulated funds transfer system.         
The IFSC code is required to transfer money from one account to another using RTGS, NEFT or IMPS methods.
