December 23rd-National Farmers’ Day (Kisan Diwas)  

Kisan Diwas (Farmer’s Day) is observed every year on 23 December to celebrate the birth anniversary of the fifth prime minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh. He was the PM of India for a very short tenure starting from 28th of July 1979 until 14th January 1980.  A Kisan leader, Late Chaudhary Charan Singh belonged to a peasant family. This was the reason he could relate himself to the issues of the farmers and therefore, he did the best to support them. When he became the Prime Minister of India in July 1979 he made many changes to improve the lives of the farmers. This is also an interesting fact that as the Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh never visited the Lok Sabha. He also served as the Deputy Prime Minister during the reign of Morarji Desai. He introduced Budget 1979 which was designed to accomplish the needs of the farmers in all respects. It had several policies in favor of Indian farmers.


Quikr acquires HDFC Realty and HDFC Developers

India’s largest mortgage lender HDFC has sold its realty brokerage business HDFC Realty and its digital real estate business HDFC Developers which owns HDFC RED (Real Estate Destination) to online classifieds player Quikr. The all-stock deal will see HDFC pick up around 3.5% stake in Quikr for the two businesses, which have collectively been valued at about Rs 357 crore.



Lt Gen B.S.Sahrawat takes over as NCC Chief      

Lieutenant General B S Sahrawat took over the reins of National Cadet Corps as its Director General. The General Officer is a third generation army officer. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was commissioned in December 1980 in 13th Battalion (Rezang La), the Kumaon Regiment. He has been awarded the Sena Medal during the floods of Kosi River in Bihar in 2008. The Cadet Corps Committee was originally formed on 29 Sep 1946 with Pt HN Kunzru as chairman. The National Cadet Corps came into existence in 1948.



M.Subbarayudu appointed India’s next Ambassador to Peru      

Shri M. Subbarayudu, presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Peru. He is expected to take up his assignment shortly. The Capital of Peru is Lima and its Currency is Sol.




Bangalore to host 7th International Coffee Festival

The seventh edition of the India International Coffee Festival (IICF) will be held in Bengaluru from January 16-19. The four-day IICF 2018 is being organized by the India Coffee Trust and State-run Coffee Board to promote the Indian coffees globally. As per the officials, IICF 2018 would be a precursor to the International Coffee Organisation’s World Coffee Conference being hosted by India in Bengaluru in 2020. Srivatsa Krishna is the Secretary, Coffee Board of Karnataka. Anil Bhandari is the President, India Coffee Trust.


Airtel Payments Bank CEO resigns     

Airtel Payments Bank Chief Executive Shashi Arora has quit the company after a recent controversy surrounding India’s largest telecom operator and its payment bank’s alleged violation of rules on using Aadhaar for its electronic know-your-customer (e-KYC) verification process. Recently, UIDAI has temporarily barred Airtel Payments Bank from conducting Aadhaar-based SIM verification of mobile customers using eKYC process. The suspension of the e-KYC licence of Airtel Payments Bank has not been revoked yet. Airtel Payments Bank is the first Payments Bank of India.


Government launches SAMEEP projects for students to learn about Foreign Policy  

With an aim to bring the foreign policy to the masses the External Affairs Ministry has come up with an initiative called SAMEEP – ‘Students and MEA Engagement Programme’. Under this MEA official will talk to students to help them understand foreign policy better. The main objective of SAMEEP is to take Indian foreign policy and its global engagements to students across the country. Under this programme, all the ministry officers under-secretary and above will be asked to go to their hometowns, particularly their alma maters.



Patanjali ranked India’s most trusted FMCG Brand

Patanjali has been ranked India’s most trusted FMCG Brand by Brand Trust Report India Study, 2017. It has also been named the most attractive brand in the country. The study was conducted on 11000 brands in 16 cities. Started in 2006, Patanjali was founded by Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna.



Prabhat Kumar Sinha appointed CMD of Northern Coalfields Ltd

On 21st December 2017, the Government announced the appointment of Prabhat Kumar Sinha as the Chairman and Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Ltd. He will hold charge till 31st December 2021. At present, he is the Director (Technical) of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd.
