India to host ten ASEAN leaders on Republic Day  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Republic Day celebration in 2018 would be “remembered through the ages” because the government for the first time in India’s history would host leaders of 10 ASEAN countries as chief guests on 26th January 2018. “The Republic Day will be celebrated with leaders of all 10 (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) ASEAN countries coming to India as chief guests. This time, not one but 10 chief guests would grace the Republic Day.


Bank of India gets capital infusion of `2257 Cr from Govt 

Public Sector Bank of India has received a capital infusion of `2,257 crores from the Government of India, in the form of Common Equity Tier-1 Capital, which is being kept as Share Application money and would be allotted after due procedure/ conditions for allotment”. The government had unveiled a `2.11 lakh crore two-year roadmap for strengthening NPA-hit public sector banks, which includes recapitalisation bonds, budgetary support and equity dilution. Bank of India was founded on 7th September 1906.


Allahabad Bank ties up with NeSL       

Allahabad Bank has entered into an agreement with state-run National e-Governance Services Limited (NeSL) for utilizing the latter’s Information Utility Services envisaged under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. NeSL, owned by the government, is the first Information Utility entity registered by Insolvency and bankruptcy Board of India under IBBI (IU) Regulations, 2017. The Oldest Joint Stock Bank of the Country, Allahabad Bank was founded on 24th April 1865. In April 2014, Allahabad Bank celebrates 150 years of foundation. The Head office of Allahabad Bank is in Kolkata.


Bank of Baroda acquires 51% stake in MF arm    

Bank of Baroda has entered into an agreement with the Italian Bank Unicredit S.p.A to acquire its 51% stake in the Baroda Pioneer Asset Management Company. Thus Bank of Baroda becomes the 100 % owner of the Asset Management Company. As of November 2017, the Average Assets under Management of the company was `11000 cr. 


Renowned Educationist M.V. Pylee passes away aged 98      

Renowned educationist M.V.Pylee passed away aged 98 in Kochi, on the 30th December 2017. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award in 2006, Pylee was the third Vice-Chancellor of the Cochin Science and Agricultural University. He also worked as a visiting professor in many foreign universities.


Viswanathan Anand wins bronze in the World Blitz Chess Championship     

India’s chess ace Viswanathan Anand won the bronze medal in the World Blitz Chess Championship held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Magnus Carlsen won the gold while Russian Sergey Karjakin won the silver medal. Just a couple of days ago, Anand had won the World Rapid Chess Championship.


ISRO to launch 31 satellites in a single mission on 19th January 2018 

The Indian Space Research Organisation has announced that it would be launching 31 satellites in a single mission on the 19th Jan 2018. The mission consists of 28 nanosatellites from other nations, one micro, one nano and one Cartosat (earth observation satellite) from India. The launches will be done from the Shriharikota Spaceport.
