UP government launches DASTAK campaign in association with UNICEF
Uttar Pradesh State Government, in association with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) launched ‘DASTAK’, a door to door campaign to eradicate deadly Acute Encephalitis (AE) Syndrome and Japanese Encephalitis (JES) disease from the state. ’DASTAK’ campaign was launched by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on February 5, 2018. Tagline for the campaign is “Darwaja khatkhatao, AES aur JE ko bhagao”.

Agni-I missile with nuclear weapon carrying capability flight-tested successfully
India tested the indigenously developed Agni-I ballistic missile that can carry a nuclear payload as part of a user trial by the Army from a test range off the Odisha coast. The Strategic Forces Command of the Army conducted the user trial of the 700 km range missile from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island in Balasore, Odisha. The surface-to-surface, single stage missile, powered by solid propellants, was launched as part of a regular training exercise by the armed forces, said the sources. The missile has a specialized navigation system, which ensures it reaches the target with a high degree of accuracy and precision. It has proved its excellent performance in terms of range and accuracy.The 15-meter-long Agni-I, weighing 12 tonnes, can carry payloads up to 1,000 kg.

Google unveils #SecurityCheckKiya campaign to protect users from cyberbullying, fraud
India has the second largest Internet user base in the world. In 2017 the country crossed over 400 million Internet users and this number is expected to reach 650 million in the next two years, according to Google. Google has unveiled a public safety initiative in India to create awareness around Internet safety and protect the netizens.
The programme called ‘#SecurityCheckKiya’ is targeted at young and first-time users to protect themselves from account hijacking. It is also aimed at shielding their Android mobile devices from malicious apps and secures all their personal data if they lose them. Google has recommended three simple steps that can help everyone start their journey towards internet safety and safeguard their online experience. This includes reviewing security settings and Google account activity with one click for all Android devices and Gmail users.

Nepali tea gets own trademark, not to use Darjeeling, India logo
Nepal’s famous tea exports will no longer have the logo ‘Darjeeling, India’ and will be sold abroad with its own identity, 154 years after tea cultivation commenced in the Himalayan nation, a media report said on 05, February. Nepal has received its own logo or trademark, with the long-standing efforts of the Nepal Tea and Coffee Development Board, organisations associated with tea production, and experts in the field. The trademark comprises an image of mountains with ‘Nepali Tea Quality from the Himalaya’ written below it. Prior to this, Nepal’s orthodox tea was being exported with the logo of Darjeeling, India, the report said. Nepal produces certain varieties of teas that are somewhat related to Darjeeling tea in its appearance, aroma and fruity taste.
First-ever Pelican Bird Festival held at Kolleru Lake
The ‘Pelican Bird Festival-2018’ was held for first in Atapaka Bird Sanctuary on at Kolleru lake in Andhra Pradesh. It was jointly organised by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority (APTA) and Krishna district administration. Kolleru Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in India located in Andhra Pradesh. It is located between Krishna and Godavari deltas. It spans in into two districts of Andhra Pradesh- Krishna and West Godavari. During winter season, thousands of pelicans, painted storks and other birds migrate to Kolleru lake. During their stay they roost, breed and later fly away with their offsprings. Recently, Atapaka Bird Sanctuary was recognized as one of the largest pelicanry in the world.
Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades wins re-election
Nicos Anastasiades has won a second five-year term as president of the Republic of Cyprus, official results have shown. With all the votes counted, the incumbent conservative secured 56 percent on 04, February, comfortably ahead of his rival, Stavros Malas, a leftist-backed independent, at 44 percent. Anastasiades, 71, is now expected to pick up the pieces of a suspended peace process on the ethnically split island, as well as oversee the economic recovery of a country still bouncing back from a crippling financial crisis.
Singtel injects Rs.2,649 crore in Bharti Telecom
Singapore-based telecom operator Singtel will invest Rs. 2,649 crore in Bharti Telecom, raising its stake in the holding company of Bharti Airtel by 1.7% to 48.9%. The preferential allotment of shares which is expected to be closed by March 2018 would allow SingTel to raise its ’economic interest’ in India’s largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel by 0.9% to 39.5%. In the statement, Bharti Airtel said that the funds will be used towards debt reduction. The move comes even as the Indian telecom sector is facing financial difficulties and revenue and profitability of established operators have come under pressure in the wake of intense competition in the market.
Assam govt, Ola sign MoU for river taxi service in Guwahati
The Assam government and cab aggregator Ola entered into a memorandum of understanding to pilot an app-based river taxi service in Guwahati. The river taxis will be a machine-operated boat, which is touted to be faster and safer than conventional ones. Ola will pilot the high-speed taxis on Lachit Ghat and Machkhowa in Guwahati to North Guwahati across the river, bringing the commute time down by two to five minutes from 45 minutes by road.
