President of India concludes the visit to Equatorial Guinea

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, April 9, 2018, concluded his visit to Equatorial Guinea and left for Swaziland for the second leg of his visit to three African nations –Equatorial Guinea, Swaziland, and Zambia. The visit, the first by a President of India to Equatorial Guinea, saw the signing of three MoUs yesterday – in the fields of AYUSH and traditional medicine; medicinal plants; and an action plan for Information and Communication Technology. Later in the day, the President will reach Swaziland in what is also the first-ever visit to that country by a President of India.

World Homeopathy Day: 10th April

A two-day scientific convention is being organized in New Delhi by Ministry of AYUSH on the occasion of World Homoeopathy Day, on 10-11th April 2018. The Vice President Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu will be the chief guest at the function while Minister of State (I/C) for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Naik will preside. This day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Homoeopathy Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann. Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha Dr. Manoj Rajoria and Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha will be the Guest of Honours. The theme of this convention is “Innovate: Evolve; Progress: Exploring Science since 40 years”.

PM Modi to visit East Champaran district of Bihar on 10th April

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive Bihar on 10th April to address “Swachchh Bharat Mission” volunteers and flag of a number of railway schemes, an official said. The PM’s visit is a part of the concluding celebration of Champaran Satyagraha centenary launched by the Bihar Government in April last year. Mahatma Gandhi had set off on his Champaran Satyagraha in 1917 in protest against atrocities on Indigo planters. Modi will also dedicate to the nation a locomotive developed at the Electric Locomotive Factory, a collaboration between India and France, in Madhepura.

Finance Ministers from South India to meet on 10th April in Kerala

Finance ministers of 5 southern states will meet on 10th April to discuss their concerns over the Terms of Reference of the 15th Finance Commission. Hosted by Kerala, the meeting has been convened with the objective to highlight the issue and “make it a national agenda for debate”. Officials from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will attend the meeting, which will be inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Kerala Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac said the new formula, which will adversely affect southern states, has not become a debate in the country. “We will not allow destroying the federal co-operative structure of the nation,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

11 public sector banks now on RBI

At present, 11 weak PSBs out of the 21 State-owned banks are under the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA), which kicks in when banks breach regulatory norms on issues such as minimum capital, amount of non-performing assets and return on assets. The 11 banks already under the NPA framework are IDBI Bank, Bank of India, UCO Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Dena Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, United Bank of India, Corporation Bank and Allahabad Bank.

New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport now among top 20 busiest globally

Apart from Delhi, other Indian airports such as Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Chennai were among the fastest growing airports in the world with the year-on-year growth of 26.9%, 19.6%, 12.9% and 10.5% Worldwide. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, despite a marginal decline in passenger traffic, continued to be the busiest airport in the world in 2017, when it handled 103 million passengers. In comparison, the 16th ranked Delhi airport handled 63.45 million passengers during 2017. This report was released by Airports Council International on 9th April.

4 Kingfisher species sighted in Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary, AP

At least four kingfisher species are thriving in the Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh, adding beauty to the precious eco-region in India. The Forest Department team has stumbled upon them across the KWL during its field visits as a part of the fauna survey that is in progress. The species have been identified as White-throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis), Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis), Black-capped Kingfisher (Halcyon pileate) and the Common Kingfisher.

INDIA at CWG 2018: Day 5 medal winners

Another fruitful day as India won seven medals on Day 5, taking its overall tally to 19. The Indian mixed badminton team won its maiden Commonwealth Games gold medal, thrashing three-time defending champions Malaysia in the final at Gold Coast in Australia on April 10.
