Vice President Naidu reaches Panama

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu who is on a five-day visit to Central America has reached Panama. He was received by Panama’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Luis Miguel Hincapie, the Director General of Protocol (Cerimonial), Roberto Zuniga and the Ambassador of India to Panama, Shri Ravi Thapar. Vice President Naidu is on a three-nation visit to Guatemala, Panama, and Peru which commenced from May 6.

Madhya Pradesh gets India’s first Smart Cities Control Centre

In a major step towards realizing the center’s smart city mission (SCM), the Madhya Pradesh government recently launched the country’s first Integrated Control and Command Centre (ICCC) for all seven smart cities of the state in Bhopal. The ICCC, installed in a building in Barkheda area of the state capital, would enable the authorities to monitor the status of various smart civic amenities in real-time through the sensors connected to it. Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Satna, and Sagar are the seven smart cities under SCM in Madhya Pradesh.

India to grow at 7.4 percent in FY 2018/19, says IMF report

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on 9th May predicted a 7.4 percent growth of the Indian economy in the current fiscal. The growth will accelerate further to 7.8 percent as it recovers from the impact of demonetization and GST rollout, said the IMF. India’s growth is expected to be more than China which is projected to grow at 6.6 percent in the current year and will moderate to 6.4 percent next year.

India’s clean energy capacity touches 70 GW: MNRE

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy recently said India’s installed clean energy capacity has already touched 70 GW and 38 GW is under implementation as per the data compiled till March 31. The 70 GW installed renewable energy capacity in the country is double of the capacity four years back, a Ministry of New and Renewable Energy statement said. The MNRE also said that around 56,000 solar power pumps were installed in the last financial year, which is highest ever in a single year. Commenting on the achievement of renewable energy in the country, Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh said, “India is progressing fast in the areas of renewable energy and government is committed to meeting the target of having 175 GW by 2022”.

Stanford University to partner with UP to combat chronic diseases

Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh on 9th May informed that the United States Stanford University will come in a partnership with the state to combat disease like Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). Singh, who headed the high-powered delegation of top state officials to the United States, said this in a press briefing here. “Stanford University will come in a partnership with us to combat disease like Japanese Encephalitis (JE) & Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Uttar Pradesh,” Singh said.

India, Ethiopia sign MoU

India and Ethiopia on Wednesday signed one Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Foreign Service Institute of India and the Foreign Service Training Institute of Ethiopia after the conclusion of Second Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) which was held in the national capital on 9th May. The two sides discussed various bilateral, regional and multilateral issues. The Indian delegation was led External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Ethiopian delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Workneh Gebeyehu.

Walmart to acquire 77% stake in Flipkart

American multinational retail corporation Walmart Inc. on Wednesday announced that it has signed definitive agreements to become the largest shareholder in the Flipkart Group. Subject to regulatory approval in India, Walmart will pay approximately USD 16 billion for an initial stake of approximately 77 percent in Flipkart, while the remainder of the business will be held by some of Flipkart’s existing shareholders, including the company’s co-founder Binny Bansal, Tencent Holdings Limited, Tiger Global Management LLC and Microsoft Corp.
