PM Modi to visit Kashmir on 19th May, set to launch several projects

PM Narendra Modi will be on a day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir on 19th May, covering all three regions of Jammu, Srinagar and Ladakh. The visit comes in the backdrop of his government asking security forces to suspend anti-militancy operations in the state as part of a people-centric outreach coinciding with the month of Ramzan. He will unveil a plaque to mark the commencement of work on the Zoji La tunnel, which will connect Baltal and Minamarg. The 14-km long tunnel will be India’s longest road tunnel and Asia’s longest bi-directional tunnel. In Srinagar, the Prime Minister will dedicate the 330 MW Kishanganga Hydropower Station to the nation at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC). Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Srinagar Ring Road. The 42.1-km, four-lane road will link Galandar in West Srinagar to Sumbal in Bandipora district.

Tamil Nadu tops the table of Most Corrupt States: CMS-India Corruption Study 2018

Tamil Nadu followed by Telangana, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat are the ‘poor’ performers in terms of curbing corruption in availing public services while Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Delhi are identified as ‘moderate’ performers according to a CMS-India Corruption Study 2018. The study also found that states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar, and Telangana have witnessed higher citizen activism, whereas Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have less activity of civil society fighting against corruption.

Tripura signs MoU with Spicejet Merchandise to boost pineapple exports

To boost the export of pineapples, state-run Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited (THCL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Spicejet Merchandise Pvt Ltd during a seminar on processing and marketing of horticultural produce of Tripura. The memorandum is targeted towards providing pineapples to major cities of the country. The ‘Queen’ variety of pineapples is considered as the pride of Tripura.

eSIMs in India get go-ahead from DoT

Mobile users will not need to buy a new SIM while changing service provider or buying a new connection, according to new guidelines issued by the Department of Telecom to allow the use of embedded SIMs (eSIM). The eSIM will be installed in the device and details of service providers can be updated in it at the time a customer buys a new connection or changes operator or wants to buy standalone service from a telecom operator like data or calling etc.

SIP inflow drops by 6% in April

With the markets turning volatile, inflows into SIPs (systematic investment plans) moderated on a monthly basis in April. Inflows into SIPs dropped 6% month-on-month (m-o-m) or by Rs 429 crore in April to Rs 6,690 crore, data with the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) showed. Incidentally, inflows into SIPs hit a record high of Rs 7,119 crore in March. Despite the decline on a monthly basis, inflows into SIPs grew by a robust 56.7% on a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis in April, AMFI data showed.

NITI Aayog’s three days Venture Capital Symposium 2018 begins in Delhi

Following the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron, 20 of the biggest French venture capital and private equity funds are coming to India to explore investment opportunities. The Venture Capital Symposium 2018 is a 3-day event where the French investors will be interacting with 100 early to mid-stage Indian start-ups.

Shivangi Pathak becomes youngest Indian woman to scale Mount Everest from Nepal side

Born in Hisar of Haryana Shivangi 16-year old recently climbed Mt Everest to spread the message that women could overcome any obstacle to achieve their goals. She was inspired by Arunima Sinha, the first Indian amputee to climb Mt Everest. In 2014, 13-year-old Malavath Poorna from India had climbed Mt Everest from Tibet side and became the youngest girl in the world to the summit at Everest.

Ramalingam Sudhakar sworn-in as chief justice of Manipur high court

Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar was sworn-in as the chief justice of the high court of Manipur, an official said on 18th May. The acting governor of Manipur Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath of office to Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar at Raj Bhavan here, deputy secretary of governor’s secretariat S Pritam Kumar Singh told PTI. The ceremony was attended by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

India’s nuclear major wins prestigious Russian award

This international award was conferred to NPCIL by the chief of the State Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia aka ‘Rosatom’ in an event held during Atomexpo. Nara Lokesh receives the award for ‘Digital Leader of the Year’

Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Nara Lokesh on 18th May received the “Digital Leader of the Year” award during Businessworld Digital India Summit and Awards 2018 at New Delhi. The ‘Business World’ magazine has announced this award for the best utilization of technology in governance. Lokesh won this award for using cutting edge technology and yielding good results in Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, and Rural Water Supply departments.
