President Ram Nath Kovind on 7th June gave additional charge of Governor of Tripura to West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi for the period that Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy is on leave.
World Bank earmarks India as fastest growing emerging economy with 7.3% growth
The World Bank has forecast a growth rate of 7.3% for India this year and 7.5% for the next two years, making it the fastest growing country among major emerging economies. Growth in India is projected to advance 7.3% in the fiscal year 2018-19 and 7.5% in FY 2019-20, reflecting robust private consumption and strengthening investment, the bank said in its June 2018 edition of the Global Economic Prospect report.
RBI reduces the interest rate on unclaimed deposits by 50 bps to 3.5%
The interest rate on unclaimed deposit amount transferred to Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) fund has been reduced by 50 basis points to 3.5%, the Reserve Bank said. The settlement of all claims received by the banks on or after July 1, 2018, will be at 3.5%, until further notice, it added. Unclaimed deposits are those, which has not been claimed by depositors for a period of 10 years. Such amount is transferred by the banks to the fund for education and awareness purpose. In case of demand from customers/ depositors whose unclaimed amount/deposit had been transferred to Fund, banks repay the amount, along with interest.
Ex-RBI deputy guv joins EPS board
Former RBI deputy governor R Gandhi has joined the board of Electronic Payment Services (EPS) as an independent director. Gandhi was deputy governor between 2014 and 2017 and is an expert in payment & settlement systems, financial markets regulation and operations, fintech and currency management. He had played a key role in managing the demonetization process from the RBI. EPS is a retail banking tech-service provider founded in 2011, by industry veterans from banking, technology, and retail payments industry in India.
India and Norway sign MoU to extend health cooperation
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Norway to extend the cooperation within health sector through the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) for a period of three years starting from 2018 to 2020.

Mithali Raj becomes First Woman to reach 2000 T20I runs
India’s star woman cricketer Mithali Raj on 7th June became the first women cricketer to score 2000 runs in Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 match against Sri Lanka. The opener achieved the feat in 75 matches during her knock of 23. The International Cricket Council (ICC) took note of Raj’s milestone and congratulated her on Twitter.
Indian Navy Ships arrive in Guam for Malabar 2018
The Indian Navy ships of the Eastern Fleet on 7th June arrived at Guam to participate in the 22nd edition of Exercise Malabar to be held off the coast of Guam in the Philippine Sea from June 7 to June 16. Exercise Malabar, which started as a bilateral exercise between the United States Navy and the Indian Navy in 1992, has evolved over the years with the participation of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) from 2007.
