PM to inaugurate third AIIB annual meet on June 26

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate third annual meeting of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank on June 26 in Mumbai, which will discuss ways to expand infrastructure investment in the region, among other things. The theme for this year’s meeting is ‘Mobilizing Finance for Infrastructure: Innovation and Collaboration’ that will see leaders from various organizations and levels of government to share ideas and experiences for creating a sustainable future through sound infrastructure investment, the finance ministry said in a statement. India is the 2nd largest shareholder in the Beijing-headquartered lender and already the largest borrower, accounting for commitments to the tune of USD 1.2 billion of the overall USD 4.5-billion committed so far.

RBI allocates portfolio to deputy governor MK Jain

Newly-appointed RBI deputy governor MK Jain will look after banking divisions, security cell and document management system, among others, the apex bank said. Jain will also look after Rajbhasha department, consumer education, financial inclusion and premises department, the RBI said. NS Vishwanathan will take care of the coordination portfolio, banking regulation, communication, co-operative banking and non-banking regulation, enforcement department and risk monitoring, it added. Viral V Acharya will take care of corporate strategy and budget department, economic and policy research, financial markets operations and regulations, financial stability unit, the human resource as well as international department and monetary policy department. While BP Kanungo has been allocated currency management, external investments, government and bank accounts, payment & settlement systems, internal debt management, foreign exchange, and legal department.

 

Government appoints Arjit Basu as new SBI managing director

The government on 22nd June appointed Arjit Basu as managing director of the country’s largest lender State Bank of India. He will fill the position that fell vacant following the elevation of Rajnish Kumar as the chairman. Now, after this, the SBI will have four managing directors. As per the SBI Act, the bank can have 4 managing directors.

 

Anil Kishore appointed as SBI’s Chief Risk Officer

State Bank of India, country’s largest public sector lender has appointed Anil Kishore as its Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Deputy Managing Director for tenure till May 2020. This appointment was communicated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its official statement. Kishore’s appointment is followed by the elevation of Arijit Basu as the new Managing Director of the bank.

 

Bharti Infratel to welcome new CFO S Balasubramanian

Bharti Infratel has appointed S. Balasubramanian as their chief financial officer (CFO) after Pankaj Miglani resigned from his position. The tower company in a regulatory filing said that Balasubramanian will take over the role of CFO from August 10. Airtel has bought Telenor India in a no-cash deal and take over the latter’s outstanding spectrum payments of Rs 1,650 crore.

 

19th All India Conference of Directors of Finger Print Bureaux concludes in Hyderabad

The valedictory function of the two-day 19th All India Conference of Directors of Finger Print Bureaux was held in Hyderabad. The Chief Guest, Shri Naini Narasimha Reddy, Minister of Home, Telangana said the state government has strengthened the Police force. He said reorganization of the districts has led to the decentralization of powers, resulting in the improvement in the district administration. The Telangana State Police has been successful in reducing and preventing crime, he observed.

 

Singapore National Swimming: Khade beats Rio Olympic champ Schooling

Ace swimmer Virdhawal Khade continued his impressive form in the run-up to the Asian Games as he beat Olympic champion Joseph Schooling to clinch the gold in men’s 100m freestyle at the Singapore National Swimming Championships in Singapore on 22nd June. Also grabbing the gold was Advait Page, the 17-year-old Madhya Pradesh swimmer who won the men’s 1500m race in 15:25.98s. The time set by the double gold medallist at Khelo India Games was also better than the senior national record of 15:45.83 set by Sajan Prakash of Railways in 2014.
