The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, addressed the 8th International Convention of Saurashtra Patel Cultural Samaj through video conference. The International Convention of Saurashtra Patel Cultural Samaj is being held in California, USA, this year. Applauding the efforts of NRIs, particularly Saurashtra Patel community, Prime Minister said that NRIs have always made India proud. He added that their efforts have ensured that Indian Passport is respected everywhere.

Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar will inaugurate the 17th World Sanskrit Conference to be held at Vancouver, Canada from 9th July to 13th July 2018. More than 500 scholars and delegates from over 40 countries will be participating in this conference and exchange their knowledge by presenting papers on various subjects followed by discussions from amongst the members. The purpose of this conference is to promote, preserve and practice the Sanskrit language all over the world by the people.

South Korean President arrives in India on a maiden visit

South Korean President Moon Jae-in arrived in India on a three-day visit on 8th July. This is Moon’s first-ever state visit to India after he took over as the President last year. During his visit, Moon will attend an India-Korea Business Forum on July 9.

The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is organizing a two-day International Round Table Conference at New Delhi during 9-10th July 2018. The objective of the Round Table Conference is to identify innovative ideas for improving the statistical system in India, taking a cue from the best practices followed in advanced countries like Canada, UK, and Australia. Such a Conference is being organized in India for the first time. The Conference will be inaugurated by Shri D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Hon’ble Union Minister of Statistics & Programme Implementation.

Nepal SBI Bank Ltd completes 25 years of its operations in Nepal

The Nepal SBI Bank Ltd was established in 1993 as a subsidiary of State Bank of India with paid-up capital of Rs.12 crore. Now it has become one of the leading banks in Nepal having Rs.805 crore paid-up capital and over 8 lakh customers. As part of Silver Jubilee celebrations bank has rolled out the number of a new initiative. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri and Chairman of the bank Sujit Kumar Varma inaugurated branch-less banking service in Kathmandu last evening. The branch-less banking provides banking services to the target customers through a device without establishing a physical branch. The latest version of “PARI” a humanoid Robot was also unveiled. PARI is an interactive robot that can recognize human faces and assist them by responding to their queries.

IMPS fund transfer doubles to Rs 3.23 lakh cr in FY’19 Q1

Transfer of funds through Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) crossed a whopping Rs 3.23 lakh crore in April-June quarter of 2018-19, which is almost double the amount recorded in the year-ago period. IMPS was launched in November 2010. Earlier, only NEFT and RTGS were available to the user for fund transfer during banking hours. Different banks have different limits for daily and monthly fund transfer through IMPS.

Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan has been appointed Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court for the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Presently, he is serving as the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court. He has to assume office on or before July 16. In this regard, the Government of India issued a notification on Sunday stating that the President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, had transferred Justice Radhakrishnan as Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court.

Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi, senior-most judge of Patna High Court, was sworn-in as the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh high court at Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhawan in Raipur. Governor Balram Das Tandon administered him an oath of office and secrecy. He became the 14th chief justice of the state high court. He has replaced Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan who has been transferred to the common high court for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states at Hyderabad.

Dipa Karmakar wins gold at the Gymnastics World Challenge Cup

Returning to action after a long layoff of nearly two years due to injury, India’s premier gymnast Dipa Karmakar clinched the gold medal in the vault event of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin, Turkey on 8th July. The 24-year-old from Tripura, who had finished fourth in the vault event at the 2016 Rio Olympics, scored 14.150 to win gold on Sunday. She had topped the qualification as well with a score of 13.400. This is Karmakar’s first medal in a World Challenge Cup.

 

MS Dhoni sets Two World Records during Bristol T20I against England

India cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni set two new world records during the third T20I of the series against England as became the first wicket-keeper to take 50 catches in T20Is and also the first wicket-keeper to take five catches in one innings. Jason Roy (67) became Dhoni’s 50th victim after he was dismissed off the bowling of debutant Deepak Chahar, who picked his maiden T20I wicket in the process.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel passed the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas to win a British Grand Prix full of action as Lewis Hamilton fought up from the back of the field to take second. Hamilton drove superbly to recover from a first-lap collision with Vettel’s team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, and the result hinged on two late-race safety cars when world champion Hamilton’s Mercedes team took a strategic gamble.

 

Indonesia Open 2018: Kento Momota beats Viktor Axelsen in final; Tai Tzu Ying claims women’s singles title

In the women’s singles, first seed Taiwanese shuttler Tai Tzu Ying claimed her second tournament victory after beating China’s Chen Yufei 21-23, 21-15 and 21-9.
