  • Rakesh Sinha is the founder and honorary director of the Delhi-based think-tank India Policy Foundation.
  • Raghunath Mohapatra is an internationally renowned authority on stone carving.
  • Sonal Mansingh is among India’s foremost exponents of Indian classical dance. She has been performing Bharatnatyam and Odissi for over six decades.


Bihar to get world’s cheapest clean drinking water

With the launch of the cost-effective innovative water project, Bihar will soon provide the cheapest drinking water in the world. The first of such a water project was launched in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on 14th July, by Sulabh International, an organization that introduced the concept of ‘Sulabh Sauchalaya’ in the country. With the help of this project, the people will easily be able to get pure and clean water only in 50 paise/ liter. The ‘Sulabh Jal’ project converts contaminated pond and river water into safe drinking water.


Haryana launches ‘I am not afraid of English’ programme for primary school students

The Haryana Education Department today said that it has launched an initiative aimed at capacity building of teachers to enable them help students to read, write and speak in English right from class 1. Under the programme titled ‘I am not afraid of English’, one Junior Basic Training teacher and a Block Resource Person per block have been trained to make students learn one sentence every day (minimum 20 per month for 10 months) in each class, an official spokesperson said.

IFC sells shares of AU Small Finance Bank worth Rs 201 crore

World Bank arm International Finance Corporation (IFC) recently sold 32 lakh shares of AU Small Finance Bank for Rs 201.6 crores through an open market transaction. However, the buyer of the shares could not be ascertained immediately. According to bulk deal data available with the BSE, International Finance Corporation FDI AC offloaded a total of 32,00,000 shares, amounting to 1.12 percent stake of AU Bank.


Ashok Leyland, HPCL unveil co-branded fuel card eN-Dhan

Ashok Leyland Ltd.(ALL), the flagship company of the Hinduja Group, in association with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), rolled out ‘eN-Dhan’, a co-branded fuel card that would offer customized solutions to commercial vehicle owners, said a top official. “About 1.5% to 3% savings would be there for customers when they use this card,” said Vinod K. Dasari, MD, ALL. “We are the first to offer this facility. It can be used at 15,000 HPCL outlets across the country.”


Govt permits import of new vehicles from Vizag port

The government has added Visakhapatnam port to the list of ports and inland container depots (ICDs) for importing new vehicles. “Visakhapatnam port is being added to the list of 15 existing ports/lCDs, thereby taking the total number of ports/ICDs to 16, for importing new vehicles,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani has surpassed Alibaba Group’s Jack Ma to become Asia’s richest person. While Ambani was estimated to be worth $44.3 billion on Friday as RIL shares rose 1.6 percent, Ma’s wealth stood at $44 billion, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.


India-Bangladesh signs Revised Travel Arrangement (RTA)-2018

Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his Bangladeshi counterpart chair meeting in Dhaka; During the meeting, India and Bangladesh signed the Revised Travel Arrangement (RTA)-2018. The Home Minister who was on a visit to Bangladesh, on 14th July called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest. The Home Minister also inaugurated a new integrated state-of-the-art Indian Visa Application Centre at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka.
