Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog & MyGov launches “Innovate India Platform”
Shri. R Ramanan, Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission, and Shri. Arvind Gupta CEO, MyGov on 26 July launched the “#InnovateIndia Platform”, a collaboration between the Atal Innovation Mission and MyGov, a citizen-centric platform of the Government of India. The #InnovateIndia portal will serve as the common point for all the innovation happening across the nation.
6th India-UK Science & Innovation Council (SIC) Meeting held in New Delhi
The 6th India-UK Science & Innovation Council (SIC) meeting held in New Delhi discussed a range of issues on S&T cooperation between the two countries .Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences & Environment, Forests and Climate Change, India and Mr. Sam Gyimah, Minister for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, UK led the Indian and UK delegations respectively. Noting the success of the Newton Bhabha partnership through which India and UK are jointly delivering cutting-edge science and Technology solutions to societal challenges, Dr. Harsh Vardhan expressed the need to establish few more Network Centres in different areas.
Tamil Nadu Loses Top Renewable Energy Spot to Karnataka: Report
Karnataka has left behind Tamil Nadu in the renewable energy capacity addition race, surpassing the latter by 1.7 GW as at the end of March 2018, according to a new report by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA). Karnataka’s renewable capacity has also exceeded its coal-fired capacity by 2.5 GW.
Rukura medium irrigation project of Odisha inaugurated
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently inaugurated the Rukura Medium Irrigation Project at Shivnathpur in Gurundia block of Sundargarh district. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said his Government has been laying thrust on the expansion of irrigation coverage.
1000 Cr. Grant will be given only to Public Institutions under Institutes of Eminence tag
While replying to a supplementary question Prakash Javadekar said that Rs. 1000 crore grant will be given only to 3 public institutions and no funds will be given to 3 private institutions under Institute of Eminence tag. He further clarified that the Institute of Eminence tag has not been given to Jio Institute yet; only Letter of Intent has been given on the recommendation of the Empowered Expert Committee (EEC).
Two Indians among Ramon Magsaysay Award winners
Two Indians, Bharat Vatwani and Sonam Wangchuk are among the six winners of this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Award. The awards declared on 26 July are regarded as the Asian version of the Nobel Prize. The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation said in its citation that Vatwani is being recognized for his tremendous courage and healing compassion in embracing India’s mentally-afflicted destitute. Wangchuk has been recognized for his uniquely systematic, collaborative and community-driven reform of learning systems in remote northern India, improving the life opportunities of Ladakhi youth in Jammu and Kashmir. The others award winners are from Cambodia, East Timor, Philippines, and Vietnam. Established in 1957, the Ramon Magsaysay Award is Asia’s highest honor.
Odisha govt signs MoU with Sightsavers for job opportunities for PWDs
For the socio-economic development of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and inclusive eye health services, the Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with international development organisation ‘Sightsavers’ recently.
UP govt and National Stock Exchange sign MoU for MSME
UP chief secretary Dr Anoop Chandra Pandey has said that the small industries should not depend fully on the banks for the expansion of their industry. The small struggling industries can raise capitals from the market through IPO after getting their registration done on National Stock exchange. It has been proposed by either party that this MOU will help the states MSMEs to get new financing opportunities.
OYO Hotels signs MoU with SBI and Bank of Baroda to offer financial support for small hotels
OYO announced recently that it has inked MoUs with the State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda for extending its support to budget hotels and creating jobs across levels. Signed under the aegis of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, the MoUs are aimed at providing financial support to OYO’s existing and potential hotel partners for standardization at their properties, OYO said.
Women’s compound archery team is world No. 1
The Indian women’s compound archery team has been ranked as the No. 1 team in the latest world rankings. With 342.600 points, the Indian team comprising V Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb, P. Lily Chanu, Muskan Kirar, Divya Dhayal, and Madhumita, is six points ahead of second-placed Chinese Taipei. India coach Jiwanjot Singh Teja said, “Yes we have done that… With the grace of God, our team has jumped to the top rank in the world.”
Imran Khan claims victory in Pakistan Assembly elections; Official results yet to be announced
In Pakistan, unofficial results of 215 out of 270 contested seats of the National Assembly have been announced. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has got 104 seats, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz- 57 and Pakistan Peoples Party -25. Among others, MMA won 11 seats, MQM-five and 11 independent. Mr Khan, the charismatic patrician captained Pakistan to a World Cup victory in 1992.
