Madhya Pradesh govt to observe Independence Day eve as Shahid Samman Divas to honor martyrs
Madhya Pradesh government will observe Independence Day eve as Shahid Samman Divas to honor martyrs. The decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting in Bhopal on 30 July. The martyrs will be paid homage and the relatives of the martyrs will also be honored on the day. Ministers, members of Parliament and state legislative assembly and chief Minister himself will meet family members of martyrs on the occasion to express gratitude for supreme sacrifice done by their near and dear for the nation.
Chhattisgarh CM, Kangana Ranaut launch smartphone distribution scheme
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, along with National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut, on Monday launched a smartphone distribution scheme, ‘Mobile Tihar’, under the Sanchar Kranti Yojana (SKY). The scheme is for distribution of smartphones to women and students, covering over 50 Lakh beneficiaries.
India’s first rapid rail project on track
Uttar Pradesh will soon become country’s first state to get Rapid Rail in the first phase of implementation of RRTS. The ambitious rapid rail project will connect Delhi and Meerut in the first corridor. Ahead of the next elections in 2019, the central government is in the process of giving green signal to the project soon.
India to buy Missile Shield NASMAS-II from the US to protect Delhi, Other Cities
In a bid to protect Delhi and other cities from missiles, drones, India is reportedly set to buy air missile shield system from the United States. The new missile shield, which costs around $1 billion, will replace the older one. The decision to buy National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System-II (NASAMS-II) was taken by the defence acquisition council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
SEBI fines Central Bank of India for violating debenture trustee norms
Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India or SEBI today imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakh on Central Bank of India for activities carried out by it as a debenture trustee. The ruling comes after SEBI conducted an inspection of books of accounts and other documents of Central Bank during September 2009 to August 2015 for the possible violation of debenture trustee regulation. The probe found that Central Bank had not entered into written agreements with the issuer companies in respect of Britannia Industries and Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corp, which is in violation of the debenture trustee regulations.
Renu Satti quits as Paytm Payments Bank CEO, to head new retail initiative at the company
Paytm Payments Bank CEO Renu Satti has resigned from the role and will now head Paytm’s new retail initiative. Paytm will look for a replacement for Satti, who had taken over the CEO role last year.
Newton wins Best Film, Rima Das’s Village Rockstars bags two awards at 3rd BRICS Film Festival
Amit Masurkar’s Newton won the Best Film and Rima Das’s Village Rockstars bagged two awards at the third edition of the BRICS Film Festival here. The Best Actress honor went to Bhanita Das for Village Rockstars, which got a Special Jury Award, Press Information Bureau said in a statement. BRICS Film Festival took place in Durban along with the International Durban Film Festival from 22-27 July.
Hamilton wins Hungarian GP to extend lead over Sebastian Vettel
Hungary — Lewis Hamilton heads into Formula One’s summer break with a comfortable 24-point lead over rival Sebastian Vettel after cruising to victory from pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix on 29 July. Hamilton was untroubled as he secured a second straight win, his fifth of the season and 67th overall. Vettel was second.
Neeraj Chopra wins javelin gold at Savo Games
Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won gold with an impressive performance, beating his Chinese Taipei rival Chao-Tsun Cheng at the recently concluded Savo Games in Finland on 29 July. Neeraj, the reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and Asian season leader threw 85.69m in the event held at Lapinlahti, Finland, where he is undergoing training as part of preparations for the upcoming Asian Games.
Prabhat Koli became the 1st Asian Teen to Swim UK-France Channel
On 26th July 2018, Prabhat Koli became the first Asian to swim the choppy water from Jersey (an Island in the UK) to France in cold weather. Koli is a 19-year-old college student. He covered 25 km in 6 hours and 54 minutes.
First Nepal-India Think Tank Summit begins in Kathmandu
The first Nepal-India Think Tank Summit started in Kathmandu on 31 July to foster greater collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the think tanks of the two countries. The summit is being jointly organized by the Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs and Nehru Memorial Museum Library. Former Prime Minister of Nepal and Co-chairman of ruling Communist Party of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is scheduled to inaugurate the summit.
