India’s first biofuel-powered flight lands in Delhi
Historic day for the country’s aviation and energy sector as India’s first biofuel-powered flight lands in Delhi, covering the distance between Dehradun & Delhi. The biofuel is developed by Indian Institute of Petroleum. The flight was powered with a blend of 75 percent air turbine fuel (ATF) and 25 percent biojet fuel. The advantage of using biojet fuel as compared to ATF is that it reduces carbon emissions and enhances fuel efficiency. Made from Jatropha crop, the fuel has been developed by the CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun.
Centre all set to launch Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana on Sep 25
The Centre is all set to launch world’s largest healthcare scheme called Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana on 25th of next month. Addressing media in New Delhi, Health Minister J P Nadda said, 29 states and UTs have signed a MoU so far towards the implementation of the scheme. Mr. Nadda said, no enrollment is required for the beneficiaries of the scheme. Mr. Nadda said, 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families are entitled as per Socio-Economic Caste Census and there is no cap on family size or age. He said, under it, a health insurance cover of 5 lakh rupees per family will be provided for treatment at empaneled hospitals and all government hospitals are deemed to be empaneled.
Government announces regulations for safe commercial usage of drones
Govt. has announced regulations for safe commercial usage of drones. The regulations will be effective from the 1st of December this year. Addressing the media in New Delhi, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu said, the regulations are intended to enable visual line-of-sight daytime-only and a maximum of 400 feet altitude operations. He said airspace has been partitioned into the Red Zone in which flying is not permitted, Yellow Zone that is controlled airspace and the Green Zone for automatic permission.
Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) opens its first regional center near Chilika Lake
The first regional center of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) is operational in Chilika from 27 August. The regional branch of country’s premier wildlife research organization would be inaugurated in the premises of the Wetland Research and Training Centre (WRTC) of the Chilika Development Authority (CDA) at Chandrapur in Chilika.
Punjab National Bank gets top rank in the digital transaction as per Finmin report
Punjab National Bank recently said a Department of Financial Services report has rated it as number one state-owned bank in terms of digital transactions. The Nirav Modi scam-hit bank is also rated as the sixth overall amongst all banks in India for digital performance, PNB said in a statement.
DBS named world’s best bank in a nod to its digital innovation
DBS Bank has been named the world’s best bank by Global Finance magazine, in a reflection of its ability to invest in digital innovation while still maintaining stable operations for its customers. DBS is the first Asian bank to receive the accolade from the New York-based publication, which last year gave the title to ING Bank.’
Satya S. Tripathi appointed Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the New York Office at UN Environment
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on 27 August announced the appointment of Satya S. Tripathi of India as Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the New York Office of the United Nations Environment Programme. He will succeed Elliott Harris of Trinidad and Tobago to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his leadership and dedicated service during his tenure.
Goldman Sachs appoints former RBI adviser Prachi Mishra as chief India economist
Global investment bank Goldman Sachs today said it has appointed former RBI adviser, Prachi Mishra, as the Managing Director and chief India economist. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Mishra was the Deputy Division Chief of the Western Hemisphere Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Before that, she headed the strategic research unit at the Reserve Bank of India from February 2016 to May 2017. She was also a specialist adviser at the RBI between November 2014 and February 2016. Mishra was the first lateral recruit at the RBI.
EAM Sushma Swaraj inaugurates 3rd Indian Ocean Conference in Vietnam
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has inaugurated the 3rd Indian Ocean Conference in Vietnam, where she said that India has made continuous efforts for peace and prosperity in the region and maritime security is essential for growth of the region.
India – Kenya Joint Trade Committee meeting held in Nairobi
The 8th meeting of India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee was held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 22nd – 25th August. The meeting was co-chaired by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu and Mr. Peter Munya, Cabinet Secretary (Minister) for Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Government of Kenya.
Trump announces a withdrawal of NAFTA
United States President Donald Trump on Monday announced that he would be “terminating” the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and would rename the new treaty as the “United States-Mexico Trade Agreement.” The NAFTA is an agreement signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, creating a trilateral trade bloc in North America, which came into force on January 1, 1994.
India at 2018 Asian Games: All Day 9 Results
Neeraj Chopra stole the limelight on Day 9 of the 2018 Asian Games as he created a new national record on his way to the men’s javelin gold with a throw of 88.06m. Neena Varakil, Dharun Ayyasamy, and Sudha Singh silver medal finish helped India end the day with 41 medals (8 gold, 13 silver, 20 bronze).
