HRD Minister launches Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) and Innovation Cell
In yet another game-changing initiative, the Union Minister for HRD, Shri Prakash Javadekar launched the Innovation Cell and Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) at AICTE, New Delhi on 30 August. Innovation cell is MHRD’s initiative and has been established at AICTE premises with a purpose to systematically foster the culture of Innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country.
Meghalaya has made it mandatory for married people to produce marriage certificates for all official purposes
The government has also decided to deny government jobs and benefits to men who have abandoned their families and are not providing for maintenance of their children. The step has been taken in view of increasing cases of broken marriages and women being forced to fend for themselves and their children. The abandonment of families by men lead to a spike in school dropouts and juvenile crimes.
Madhya Pradesh: “Mil -Banche” programme to be organized in govt schools of the state
Madhya Pradesh, in a first of its kind initiative, “Mil -Banche”, an interactive programme between schools and society is being organized in all government schools of the state on 31 August.
Union Minister Maneka Gandhi & UP CM Yogi Adityanath to inaugurate ‘Krishna Kutir’ at Vrindavan on 31 August
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the largest ever facility for widows ‘Krishna Kutir’ at Vrindavan. The special home for one thousand widows, set up by the Women and Child Development Ministry under the Swadhar Greh scheme of the Ministry, is the largest-ever facility of its kind created by a government organization.
ICAR organizes 2-day conference on Motivating & Attracting Youth in Agriculture (MAYA)
ICAR had initiated a program on “Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) during 2015-16. Under this scheme, special efforts are being taken up to attract the rural youth under the age of 35 years in agriculture so that the increase in the migration of rural youth towards cities is controlled. Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), has inaugurated a two-day conference at NASC, New Delhi from 30-31 August on Motivating and Attracting Youth in Agriculture (MAYA).
Kashmir gets its first Muslim woman pilot
Thirty-year-old Iram Habib has become the first Kashmiri Muslim woman to become a pilot. Habib will join a private airline next month. Iram succeeds Tanvi Raina, a Kashmiri Pandit, who joined Air India as the Valley’s first woman pilot in 2016.
DNV GL issues world’s first solar plant project certificate to CLP’s Veltoor Solar Power Project in India
Certification body DNV GL has issued the world’s first project certificate for solar PV power plants to CLP India’s Veltoor Solar Power Project in Telangana, India, owned by SE solar Ltd (SPV of Suzlon Energy Ltd and CLP India). In 2016, India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced the world’s largest renewable energy expansion programme, with the stated aim of reaching 175 GW of green power generation by 2022, including 100 GW of solar power.
GoI and ADB Sign $375 million loan to improve Irrigation Efficiency in Madhya Pradesh
The government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $375 million loan agreement to contribute to double farming incomes in Madhya Pradesh by expanding irrigation networks and system efficiency.

GoI and ADB Sign $346 million loan to improve State Highways in Karnataka
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India on 30 August signed a $346 million loan to finance improvement of over 400 kilometers of state highways that will enhance connectivity and access to economic centers across 12 districts in Karnataka.
MoU signed between Department of Biotechnology and International Energy Agency
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, and the International Energy Agency (IEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Enhancing Innovation for Clean Energy Transition on 30 August.

Indian Naval ship Sahyadri reaches Darwin, Australia for exercise KAKADU 2018
After having been deployed to the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean for over four months, which included representing Indian Navy in multinational exercises MALABAR 18 at Guam and RIMPAC 18 at Hawaii, INS Sahyadri entered the Port of Darwin, Australia on 29 Aug 18 to participate in Exercise KAKADU 2018. Exercise KAKADU, which started in 1993, is the premier multilateral regional maritime engagement exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and supported by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The exercise is held biennially in Darwin and the Northern Australian Exercise Areas (NAXA). Exercise KAKADU derives its name from Kakadu National Park, which is a protected area in the northern territory of Australia, 171 km south-east of Darwin.
6th RCEP Ministerial Meeting begins in Singapore
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, is leading the Indian delegation for the 6th RCEP Trade Ministers’ Meeting which began in Singapore. The Minister will participate in the meet consisting of 10 ASEAN countries and six ASEAN FTA partners namely, India, China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand. The meeting is being held on the 30th-31st August 2018.
Asian Games 2018: India’s medal winners on Day 12
India won 5 medals on Day 12, all of which came from the track and field arena. The haul took India’s medal tally to 59 medals on 30 August, which included 13 gold, 21 silver, and 25 bronze.
