India’s Current Account Deficit widens to $15.8 billion in Q1 FY19
India’s current account deficit (CAD) widened to $15.8 billion, which is around 2.4 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in the quarter ending June as compared with $15 billion in the same quarter a year before. The weakening rupee against the US dollar and high crude-oil prices in the international market have swelled the current account deficit in the first quarter.
NGT forms a monitoring committee to prepare an action plan on groundwater recharge in Delhi
National Green Tribunal (NGT) has formed a monitoring committee headed by Justice (retd) S P Garg to prepare a time-bound action plan on groundwater recharge in Delhi.

Piyush Goyal launches “AAPOORTI” mobile app of ‘Indian Railways
On 6th September 2018, Minister of Railways & Coal, Piyush Goyal launched a new mobile app named “AAPOORTI” of ‘Indian Railways e-procurement system’ (IREPS), at the seminar on “Leveraging IT for Mobility” in New Delhi.
Facebook to build $1 billion data center in Singapore, its first in Asia
Facebook Inc recently announced plans to build its first data center in Asia, and its 15th worldwide. The 170,000 sq mt facility in Singapore is expected to be operational in 2022 and the social media giant said that it will invest around $1 billion in the project.
HDFC Bank is India’s most valued brand for the 5th year in a row: Report
HDFC Bank retained its top spot in the BrandZ India Top 50 for the fifth year in a row, growing its brand value by 21 percent to $21.7 billion in 2018. LIC comes in at the 2nd spot ($19.8 billion) due to the key role played by its pension plan business, while TCS ranked 3rd ($15 billion), having leveraged digital technologies to drive growth and business transformation.
SpyLite mini UAV systems to be supplied by Cyient JV to Indian Army
On September 7, 2018, Cyient Solutions & Systems (CSS) has received an order from Indian Army to supply SpyLite mini UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) systems for high altitude aerial surveillance. CSS is a joint venture between Cyient and Israel’s BlueBird Aero Systems.
Anshula Kant appointed as SBI Managing Director
On September 7, State Bank of India has appointed Anshula Kant as Managing Director of the Bank till the date of her superannuation i.e. September 30, 2020. She replaced B Sriram, who took over as the MD and CEO of IDBI Bank.
Ashwani Bhatia appointed as MD & CEO of SBI Mutual Fund
SBI Mutual Fund has appointed Ashwani Bhatia as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. She replaced Anuradha Rao who returned to State Bank of India (SBI) as Deputy Managing Director.
India and France sign an implementation agreement on “Mobilise Your City”
India and France have signed an implementation agreement on Mobilise Your City (MYC) in the presence of Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Hardeep Singh Puri and Shri Alexander Ziegler, Ambassador of France in India. The MYC aims at supporting 3 pilot cities viz. Nagpur, Kochi, and Ahmedabad in their efforts to reduce their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions related to urban transport by implementing urban mobility plans.
Infosys, Temasek form JV in Singapore
India’s 2nd largest IT services firm Infosys said it has teamed up with Temasek to form a joint venture that will support the Singapore-based company’s digital transformation journey. The joint venture — in which Infosys Consulting (Infosys subsidiary) holds 60% stake will be headquartered in Singapore, Infosys said in a statement. The remaining stake will be held by Temasek.
Assam govt makes Asian Games medalist Hima Das as Sports Ambassador of state
Assam Govt. has made Asian Games medalist Hima Das as the Sports Ambassador of the state. CM Sarbananda Sonowal has handed over the letter to Hima at a function in Guwahati. He also handed over a cheque of 1.6 crore rupees to Hima. She has won 3 medals in recently concluded Asian Games.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar has been appointed as the permanent captain of Brazil’s national team. Brazil’s head coach Tite scrapped the captaincy rotation policy of the team to give Neymar the permanent position.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu embarks on a three-day visit to the US
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has left for a 3-day visit to the United States of America. He will address the special session of Indian diaspora at the 2nd World Hindu Congress at Chicago on 9th September. The event has been organized on the eve of the 125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Historic Speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in 1893.
