Jharkhand to become partner state at Goa International Film Festival
This year Goa International Film Festival from 20th to 28th of November, 2018 will have Jharkhand as a partner state. The decision was taken in meeting between Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Amit Khare and Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, Sudhir Tripathy at Ranchi.
Lok Sabha Speaker inaugurated Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference of Indian Region in Guwahati
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference of India Region, Zone III in Guwahati. Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference plays an important role in promoting democracy. It provides a platform to the legislators to interact with domain experts and their peers.
Arunachal Pradesh govt launches CM’s Sashakt Kisan Yojana and Krishi Samuh Yojana
Arunachal Pradesh Government has launched 2 schemes called- the Chief Minister’s Sashakt Kisan Yojana and Chief Minister’s Krishi Samuh Yojana in Itanagar.
- The Chief Minister’s Sashakt Kisan Yojana will subsume three state flagship programmes, namely – CM’s Employment Generation Scheme, CM’s Agri-Mechanization Programme and CM’s Flagship Programme on Tea and Rubber
- The Chief Minister’s Krishi Samuh Yojana aims at empowering the farmers through a cooperative approach, by providing timely supports and marketing interventions of the government for better price realization and doubling farmers’ income
Odisha CM launches Nirman Kusuma scheme
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently launched yet another scheme ‘Nirman Kusuma’ for providing financial assistance to the children of construction workers for their technical education in the State. While an ITI student will be entitled to get financial assistance of `23,600, a diploma student will get ` 26,300 per annum. A total of 1,878 students will get benefit from the scheme.
National Housing Bank (NHB) decides to increase the Refinance Limit for the Current Year(July 2018-June 2019)
Keeping in view the current scenario, National Housing Bank (NHB has decided to increase the Refinance limit to from Rs. 24,000 crore to Rs.30,000 crore. Now, eligible Housing Finance Companies & Other entities will have increased availability of funds. National Housing Bank (NHB) is the Principal Agency to promote Housing Finance Institutions, currently 97 in number, and to provide financial support to eligible institutions. As a regulator, the National Housing Bank regularly monitors the liquidity position of Housing Finance Companies.
Centre and ADB sign $110 million loan agreement for upgradation of rural roads in Madhya Pradesh
The Center and Asian Development Bank, ADB, have signed a 110 million dollar loan agreement for the upgradation of 2,800 kilometers all-weather rural roads in Madhya Pradesh. The loan is a part of 500 million dollar Second Rural Connectivity Investment Program, Tranche 2, approved by the ADB Board December last year, under the Prime Minister’s Rural Roads Program.
Government launches “Closing the Skills Gap Task Force”
A task force was launched Friday to develop an action plan to address skills gaps in India and make the country’s workforce ready for jobs of the future. The task force, launched in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, will be co-chaired by Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with Infosys MD and CEO Salil Parekh.

Indian student Esha Bahal becomes British High Commissioner to India for a day
Esha Bahal, a student of Political Science in Noida International University, has become British High Commissioner to India for 24 hours. To mark the International Day of the Girl Child, which is celebrated on October 11, the British High Commission organized a competition for women aged between 18 and 23 to become the British High Commissioner to India for a day.
William Nordhaus, Paul Romer win Nobel prize for economics
This year’s Nobel prize for economics has been awarded to William Nordhaus and Paul Romer of the United States for their work on sustainable growth. The research of the two US economists focuses on how climate change and technology have affected the economy.
ESIC wins ‘ISSA GOOD Practice Award, Asia & the Pacific 2018’
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has won the ‘ISSA Good Practice Award’ for Administrative Solution for Coverage Extension at the “Regional Social Security Forum for Asia and the Pacific” held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently.
World Post Day: 9 October
The day is celebrated every year on 9th October marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the Universal Postal Union Congress held in Tokyo in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Posts in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services.

Caroline Wozniacki wins her 30th WTA singles title
Caroline Wozniacki won her 30th WTA singles title with victory over Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova in the China Open final in Beijing. The 28-year-old Wozniacki, who won her maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open at the start of this year, was imperious against the unseeded Sevastova, winning 6-3, 6-3. It is her second China Open crown as she also won it in 2010.
Gandhian Natwar Thakkar passes away
Noted Gandhian, Natwar Thakkar passed away in a private hospital in Guwahati recently. He was 86. His mortal remains have been taken to Kasturba Gandhi Ashram in Guwahati for the last tributes. He hailed from Maharashtra but made Nagaland his home ever since he had landed in the state in 1955.
