PM unveils statue of Sir Chhotu Ram in Sonipat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Haryana on 9th October to unveil the statue of farmer leader Sir Chhotu Ram where he also highlighted his government’s initiatives in the agriculture sector. Rai Richhpal better known as Sir Chhoturam was born on 24 November 1881 in a small village called Sampala in Rohtak. This great personality was a Messiah for farmers. He not only fought for the country’s independence in the Quit India movement, but also for the rights of farmers.
EAM Sushma Swaraj launches India for Humanity initiative in New Delhi
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched India for Humanity initiative in New Delhi as part of 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi being held over the next one year. With its focus on Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of compassion, caring and service to humanity, ‘India for Humanity’ features a year-long series of artificial limb fitment camps in a number of countries spanning the globe.
Haryana to set up Anti-Terrorism force named “Kavach”, trained by NSG
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar recently announced that the Haryana government will set up an anti-terrorism force (ATF) comprising specially trained recruits from the state police, to deal with present day security challenges.
“MedWatch” Mobile Health app for citizens of India Launched by IAF on Air Force Day
On the occasion of 86th anniversary, the Indian Air Force has launched an innovative mobile health App named ‘MedWatch’ in keeping with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Digital India, Ayushman Bharat and Mission Indradhanush’. The app is conceived by the doctors of IAF and developed in house by Directorate of Information Technology (DIT) with ZERO financial outlay.
IMF projects India’s growth at 7.3% in 2018, 7.4% next year
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted a growth rate of 7.3 per cent for India in the current year and 7.4 per cent in 2019. In 2017, India had recorded a 6.7 per cent growth rate. The latest World Economic Outlook Report has predicted a slightly lower growth rate than it made projections in the April 2018 World Economic Outlook for 2019. It said, the prediction is lower due to recent increase in oil prices and the tightening of global financial conditions.
SBI bailout offer for NBFCs: will buy assets worth Rs 45,000 crore
State Bank of India (SBI) on 9th October offered to bail out the liquidity-starved non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), hit by a series of debt repayment defaults by crisis-ridden IL&FS and its subsidiaries, with its proposal to buy good quality assets worth Rs 45,000 crore from NBFCs.
Country’s first ethanol plant to come up in Odisha’s Bargarh district
Odisha is going to have a Second Generation (2G) Ethanol Bio-Refinery, first in the country to produce ethanol from rice straw, in Bargarh district. To be set up at Baulsingha village under Bhatli tehsil by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) at an estimated cost of Rs. 1000 crore, the bio-refinery will produce three crore litre of fuel-grade ethanol annually using rice straw as feedstock.

BoB partners Truecaller for UPI payments
Bank of Baroda (BoB) has tied-up with True Software Scandinavia – The company behind caller ID app True caller – to enable digital payments using BHIM Baroda Pay UPI Service. Truecaller has gone live with its account-to-account payment service, ahead of WhatsApp, as it is fully compliant with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) data localisation norms.
World Mental Health Day: 10 October
When: In 1992, World Federation for Mental Health declared October 10 as the World Mental Health Day.
Why: This day creates awareness on mental health issues and support needed for mental health.

Ukraine and NATO kick off large-scale ‘Clear Sky 2018’ air exercises
Ukraine recently began a series of large-scale air force exercises with the United States and other NATO countries, the Ministry of Defence said. The “Clear Sky 2018” war games, which will run until October 19, are being held in western Ukraine.
Nikki Haley resigns as US Ambassador to United Nations
Indian-American Nikki Haley has resigned as the US Ambassador to the United Nations. President Donald Trump made the formal announcement of her resignation and applauded her work. He said, Haley had told him in advance that she wanted to take a break. Mr Trump said, Nikki Haley has been very special to him and she has done an incredible job as the top American diplomat at the UN. Haley said, she plans to stay in this position till the year end.
Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins India’s first gold at Youth Olympics
Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga notched up India’s maiden gold medal at the Youth Olympics, claiming the top honours in the men’s 62 kg category here. The 15-year-old from Aizwal, who is also a world youth silver-medalist, lifted a total of 274 kg (124 kg +150 kg) to finish on top in the Argentine capital.
Manu Bhaker wins India’s first ever gold in shooting at Youth Olympics
Manu Bhaker became the first shooter from India to claim a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 9th October with a spectacular performance in what is being seen as a comeback after a disappointing Asian Games.
