Indian Army conducts Hot Air Ballooning Expedition “Jai Bharat”

To showcase the adventurous spirit of the Indian Army to the youth of the country, the Army Adventure Wing on Tuesday flagged off a Trans India: North-South Hot Air Ballooning Expedition, from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari, covering a distance of approximately 3,236 kilometers. As part of the Expedition, the Army will be flying two balloons across the country, touching a total of 31 stations, wherein Aero shows will be conducted by this team.

 

Election Commission sets up ‘Sangwari’ polling booths in various constituencies of Chhattisgarh to encourage women voters

The Election Commission has set up ‘Sangwari’ polling booths in various constituencies of Chhattisgarh to encourage women, voters, to exercise their franchise in the Assembly elections. In Chhattisgarhi dialect, ‘Sangwari’ means friend. These women-friendly booths will be manned by all-female staff including presiding officers, supervisors and security personnel.

 

‘Mo bus service’ launched in Odisha

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the technology-driven and citizen-friendly ‘Mo bus’ service in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Mo bus service has facilities like, free wi-fi, CCTV surveillance, public information display system and onboard announcements.

RBI relaxes ECB norms for infrastructure creation

The Reserve Bank of India on 7th November liberalized the norms governing foreign borrowings for infrastructure creation. The central bank in a notification said that the minimum average maturity required for the External Commercial Borrowings, ECBs in the infrastructure space raised by eligible borrowers has been reduced to 3 years from earlier 5 years.

 

SIDBI, PSBs own MSME loan site

SIDBI has said that Capita World — the company behind the ‘loan in 59 minutes’ portal for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) launched by the Prime Minister last week — is a public-sector firm. Public sector unit (PSU) institutions have an option to increase the stake from 56% to 74% in the future. Speaking to TOI, Sidbi DMD Manoj Mittal said that a consortium of 6 public banks led by SIDBI held 56% in the fintech company, which gave it a public-sector character. The PSUs’ shareholders held 4 board seats and had management control.

 

In a first, HSBC makes an overseas transaction for Reliance Industries via blockchain

In a first for India, British banking major HSBC has executed a trade finance transaction involving an export by Reliance Industries to an American client using the blockchain, which massively reduced the time taken for processing the documents. The blockchain-enabled letter of credit transaction facilitated a shipment between Reliance and the US-based Tricon Energy, a joint statement issued by HSBC India and Reliance said.

Kesavananda Bharati selected for V R Krishna Iyer Award

Head of the Edneer Mutt Kesavananda Bharati has been selected for this year’s V R Krishna Iyer Award instituted by the Law Trust. He was selected for the award based on his landmark victory in the legal fight against the state government. The award carries a statuette and a purse of Rs 25,000. The apex court had ruled the Parliament has only limited powers to amend the Basic Constitutional structure. The award will be presented on Law Day which falls on November 26.

 

World’s first Indian woman amputee to scale Everest, Arunima Sinha gets an honorary doctorate in the UK

Arunima Sinha, the Indian mountaineer who became the world’s first woman amputee to climb Mount Everest in 2013, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by a prestigious UK university for her inspirational achievements. Sinha, 30, was conferred with the honorary doctorate by the University of Strathclyde at a graduation ceremony in Glasgow on 6th November.

Bajwa shoots historic skeet gold at Asian Shotgun Championship

The 8th Asian Shotgun Championship in Kuwait, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa has won a gold with a world record score in the men’s skeet final. He became the first Indian skeet shooter to win a continental or world level event. Angad shot a perfect 60 out of 60 in the final round to claim top spot ahead of China’s Di Jin who shot 58. UAE’s Saeed Al Maktoum won bronze with a score of 46. Earlier in the day, India’s 10m rifle mixed team pairing of Elavenil Valarivan and Hriday Hazarika struck gold with a junior world record score. They finished with a score of 502.1, which is a World and Asian Junior record in the event.

 

Odisha Sports Dept. releases ‘Cheer-Up Song’ of Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018

The State Sports & Youth Services department released the music video of the Odia cheer-up song of Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018, which is scheduled to be held at Kalinga Stadium here from November 28 to December 16. While Bollywood singer Mika Singh has lent his voice to the song titled ‘Asa Kariba Bobaal’, the video features people of all ages and walks of life. Folkloric dance ‘Sambalpuri’ and classical dance ‘Odissi’ are also being highlighted in the musical recording to add a flavour of the host State – Odisha.

During his weeklong visit, he held wide range discussions with the President of Botswana, Mr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, the President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa and the President of Malawi, Peter Mutharika and other leaders in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently set out 10 guiding principles to enhance our engagement with Africa.

India elected as a member of ITU council for another 4 years

India has been elected as a member of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for another 4 years till 2022 by securing 165 votes and ranking third among the 13 countries elected to the council from Asia-Australasia region. The ITU has 193 member states that elect representatives to the council.
