Union Cabinet Decisions on 28th December

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the following:
  • Gaganyaan Programme (India’s maiden human spaceflight programme) to send 3 persons to space by 2022 with a budget of Rs. 10000 crore.
  • Submission of India’s Second Biennial Update Report (BUR) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
  • Setting up of the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) Bill, 2018.
  • Two Bilateral MoUs between India and Cuba, and India and Korea in the area of Biotechnology.
  • Setting up of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Bill, 2018.
  • Framework Agreement between India and Sao Tome & Principe for Cooperation in the Exploration and Uses of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes.
  • Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification 2018.
  • Amendment in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
  • Listing of certain unlisted CPSEs on Stock Exchange.
  • Hike in MSP for Copra by more than Rs.2000 per quintal for 2019 season.

 

President of India Inaugurates the 12th Global Healthcare Summit in Mumbai

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the 12th Global Healthcare Summit organized by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin in Mumbai on 28th December. Speaking on the occasion, the President acknowledged the professionalism and excellent reputation of doctors of Indian origin in the US. He said India and the US shared complementarities in the pharmaceutical field – in clinical research, drug discovery and manufacture. He said that both countries can work together to address common challenges posed by lifestyle diseases.

 

Raghubar Das first Jharkhand CM to complete 4 years in office

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das completed four years in office on 28th December, announcing a scheme to help the girl child and also gave a report card of the achievements of his government during this period. Das announced ‘Mukhya Mantri Sukanya Yojana’ for girl child from January 1 next year at a press conference here. He was sworn in as chief minister of Jharkhand on December 28, 2014.

Public Enterprises Survey 2017-18: Indian Oil, ONGC, NTPC most profitable PSUs in FY18

On 27th December, according to a survey titled ‘The Public Enterprises Survey 2017-18’ tabled in the parliament, Indian Oil Corporation, ONGC, and NTPC emerged as the top three most profitable PSUs in 2017-18.

 

RBI relaxes withdrawal limit for depositors of City Co-operative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has relaxed the norms for the Mumbai-based the City Co-operative Bank, allowing its depositors to withdraw a sum not exceeding Rs 5,000 of the total balance in every savings bank or current account or any other deposit account, against Rs. 1,000 earlier.

 

ICICI topped the list of banks penalizing staff for fraud in 2015-2017: RBI data

India announces Rs. 4,500 crore assistance to Bhutan

PM Narendra Modi has announced a Rs 4,500 crore financial assistance to Bhutan for its 12th five-year plan after holding wide-ranging talks with his Bhutanese counterpart Dr. Lotay Tshering. The new five-year plan of Bhutan began this year and will continue till 2022. In his media statement after the talks in New Delhi, Mr. Modi said hydropower cooperation with Bhutan is a key aspect of bilateral ties and that work on the Mangdechhu project will soon be completed.

 

India pips China in FDI inflows for the first time in 20 years

Ex-President Rajoelina wins Madagascar vote

Former Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina has beaten his rival and predecessor Marc Ravalomanana in an election beset by allegations of fraud from both sides, the electoral commission said on 27th December. Rajoelina has returned to power after he won 55.66% against 44.34% for Ravalomanana, it said.
