Phayeng Village of Manipur becomes India’s first carbon-positive settlement

A village is given the Carbon-Positive Tag if it sequesters more carbon than it emits, slowing the accumulation of greenhouse gases and mitigating the effects of climate change. As part of the carbon-positive village project, Phayeng will receive a grant of Rs10 crore in phases to facilitate afforestation in the catchment of river Maklang that flows along the village.

In a first, SEBI gives a nod to Rs 10,000 crore ‘Airport Fund’

In perhaps a first for the country, markets regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has approved an ‘Airport’ specific fund. ‘Taking Off To The Future Airport Fund’, which can raise a capital of up to Rs 10,000 crore ($1.5 billion), has been approved by SEBI as a ‘Category II Alternative Investment Fund’ (AIF). Chennai-based ‘Taking Off To The Future Investment Management LLP’ is the sponsor and the investment manager of the fund.

Praful Patel becomes the first Indian in FIFA Executive Council

Praful Patel, president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), has become the first Indian to be elected as a member of the FIFA Executive Council. Patel has got 38 votes out of the total 46 votes, which only shows how highly he is regarded by the fellow Asian nations.

NASSCOM names Keshav Murugesh as Chairman

On 5th April, NASSCOM (National Association of Software and services companies), an IT industry body has appointed Keshav Murugesh, CEO of WNS Global Services Group as its Chairman for 2019-20. This appointment of the Nasscom Chairman and Vice Chairman is done by the Executive Council.

Israel’s Beresheet enters lunar orbit, becomes 7th nation to achieve the feat

Israel’s spacecraft Beresheet has successfully entered the moon’s orbit after a month-and-a-half in transit and will now adjust its orbit in order to prepare for landing on the lunar surface on April 11. Beresheet was launched by Elon Musk’s Space X-owned Falcon 9 rocket on February 21.
