First Edition of Ayushman Bharat Diwas: 23rd September

Ayushman Bharat – the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has completed one year of its launch on 23rd September 2018, and the day is being celebrated as Ayushman Bharat Diwas across the country. The scheme, which is the world’s largest health care program, provides a health cover of five lakh rupees annually to vulnerable families and aims at benefiting more than ten crore poor families all over the country. In the last one year, more than 46 lakh beneficiaries have availed cashless treatment under the scheme.

 

Govt launches ‘UMMID’ initiative to tackle inherited genetic diseases of newborn babies

Science and Technology and Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan launched ‘UMMID’ (Unique Methods of Management and treatment of Inherited Disorders) initiative to tackle inherited genetic diseases of newborn babies. The congenital and hereditary genetic diseases are becoming a significant health burden and there is a need for adequate and effective genetic testing and counselling services. The Minister also inaugurated NIDAN (National Inherited Diseases Administration) Kendras.

 

National centre for I-T e-assessment to be based in Delhi

A national e-assessment centre (NeAC) will be set up in the national capital as part of the government’s ambitious plan to launch faceless and nameless assessment for income taxpayers from next month.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), that frames a policy for the Income-tax department, has issued an order for the creation of the Centre. The Centre will have 16 officials and will be headed by a Principal Chief Commissioner of Income-tax (PCCIT) as its chief.

 

RBI approves the reappointment of Shyam Srinivasan as Federal Bank CEO

The Reserve Bank of India has approved the re-appointment of Shyam Srinivasan as the Managing Director and CEO of Federal Bank for another year, giving him a full decade as the head of the private sector lender. His re-appointment is with effect from September 23 this year until September 22, 2020, the bank said in a regulatory filing.

Koneru Humpy wins the Skolkovo Fide Women’s Grand Prix

Humpy won the Skolkovo leg of FIDE’s 2019 Women’s Grand Prix by making a draw in the final round against reigning Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun in Skolkovo with 8 points from 11 rounds. The other India in the day, D Harika finished sixth. Humpy had won four games in a row before the final round and that run meant that she only needed a draw to clinch the title.

 

Sebastian Vettel wins F1 Singapore Grand Prix

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel of Germany won the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2019 held at Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore. He also became the first person to win the Singapore Grand Prix 5 times. The second and the third spot was won by Ferrari’s Charles Lecrec (Monaco) and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen (Belgium) respectively.

FIFA Football Awards 2019: Lionel Messi best Men’s Player, Megan Rapinoe Takes Women’s Honour

Lionel Messi and Megan Rapinoe picked up the top honours at the star-studded ceremony in Milan’s famous opera house. Messi beats Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo to win The Best Men’s Player award while Rapinoe beat Alex Morgan and Lucy Bronze to win The Best Women’s Player award. It is the sixth time Messi has been voted the world’s best, after wins in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

Kerala Tourism bags 3 PATA gold awards

Kerala Tourism won three Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) gold awards, including the one for an ethnic food restaurant run by women at Kumarakom in Kottayam. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran and Tourism Director P Bala Kiran received the awards during the PATA Travel Mart 2019 at Nur-Sultan (Astana) in Kazakhstan. The two other gold awards were for an advertisement campaign of Kerala Tourism — Come Out and Play — and for its website (www.keralatourism.org).

International Coastal Cleanup Day: 21st September

The International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICCD) is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September. This year it was observed on September 21, 2019. It encourages people along with ocean conservation groups, and environmental organizations to clean up the garbage/trash on the beach. Coastal states across the country took part in a massive beach cleaning drive with many volunteer participation.

 

India-US Tri-Services ”Exercise Tiger Triumph” To Be Held In November

India and the United States are set to hold their first tri-services exercise code-named “Tiger Triumph” at Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in November this year. “India-US tri-services ”Exercise Tiger Triumph” is being organized under the aegis of the headquarters of the Integrated Defence Staff. Final Planning Conference (FPC) for India-US Tri-Services Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) concluded at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command on September 20.
