The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts the Probationary Officer (PO) Bank Exam every year to fill the vacant PO posts in all Public-Sector Banks, Associate Banks of SBI, RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, LIC & Insurance companies and other Banks which are regular members of the IBPS society.

The IBPS PO selection process consists of 3 phases – IBPS PO Preliminary Exams, IBPS PO Mains and the Final Interview. The candidate must qualify each of them to proceed to the next phase.
IBPS PO Prelims: In this phase, candidates in each category are shortlisted by IBPS depending upon the vacancies and requirements for the next phase i.e., IBPS PO Mains.
IBPS PO Mains: Candidates must qualify the sectional as well as overall cutoff in the IBPS PO Main exam to be eligible for next phase, i.e., the interview.
Interview: Interviews will be conducted by the Participating Organizations and coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each State/ UT with the help of IBPS to select the POs.
The IBPS PO preliminary examination pattern can only be determined once the official notification is out.
However, customarily, IBPS exam is conducted online for a total duration of 1 hour. It consists of 3 sections with a total of 100 questions and maximum score of 100 marks. There is negative marking in IBPS PO prelims and 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer.
The three sections that the IBPS PO Prelims is divided into are: Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language.
The IBPO PO Main exam is also conducted online. It tentatively, has 5 sections with a total score of 200 marks and total duration of 141 minutes.
The exam consists of five sections: Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, and Computer Knowledge.
The interesting thing to note here is that a specific time limit for attempting each of the five sections is set. The sections must be attempted in the same order and in the allotted time as mandated at the time of the exam. The candidate can’t skip to the next section before the time allotted to the current section has elapsed. There is negative marking as well with each wrong answer leading to deduction of 0.25 marks.
