Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test

Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test (MAHATET) is conducted by Maharashtra State Council of Examination. It is a compulsory exam for candidates aspiring to become teachers in the Primary or Secondary school affiliated to the Maharashtra State Government. All candidates must be B.ED qualified to be eligible for the MAHATET exam.

Eligibility for Maharashtra TET

The NCTE has the below guide lines for the eligibility of candidates for the Maharashtra TET: Educational Qualifications for teaching Classes I to V and VI to VIII:

Educational Qualifications for teaching Classes I to V and VI to VIII:

(A). Candidate must possess among following minimum Educational Qualifications for becoming teacher for Classes I to V (Primary Section):

Educational Qualification:

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or
  • Appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (By Whatever name known).or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. El. Ed.) or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or
  • Appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) or
  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education(by whatever name known)

Reservation: Relaxation upto 5% in qualifying marks for the candidates of reserved category as per State Govt. norms.

(B). Candidate must possess among following minimum Educational Qualifications for becoming teacher for Classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Section):

Educational Qualification Maximum Age: 33 years as on 01/12/2015 (age relaxation to SC and ST candidates as per norms)

  • Educational Qualification Maximum Age: 33 years as on 01/12/2015 (age relaxation to SC and ST candidates as per norms)
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1- year Bachelor in Education (B. Ed). Or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or
  • Appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B. El.Ed.) Or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or
  • Appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc. Ed or B.A Ed./B.Sc. Ed. Or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed Or
  • Appearing in I-year /B. Ed. (Special Education) Reservation: Relaxation upto 5% in qualifying marks for the candidates of reserved category as per State Govt. norms.

Diploma in Special Education and B. Ed. (Special Education) organised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) shall only be considered. Note (a)Relaxation up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum Educational Qualification for eligibility shall be allowed to the candidates belonging to reserved categories, such as MPST/Differently abled. Note (b)The candidate not having anyone of the above qualification shall not be eligible for appearing the Madhya Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test 2015

It is to be noted that if a candidate has been allowed to appear in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test it does not imply that the candidate’s eligibility has been verified. It does not vest any right with the candidate for appointment. The eligibility shall be, finally verified, by the concerned recruiting /appointing authority.

Recent update on MAHA TET:

The Maharashtra Government conducted TET exam in the month of January 2016. Over 3.35 Lakh candidates registered for the exam and 1.91 lakh candidates appeared for the test.
